PONDER on THIS for Monday, April 7th, 2008 by John St. Augustine in LIVING AN UNCOMMON LIFE

"Most of us feel that responsibility is a heavy burden, when in fact the opposite is true. The more responsible you become, the less of a load you have to carry. Responsibility proves that results speak for themselves. Most of us have no idea what our responsibility reserves can do – because we shy away from anything that smacks of being responsible. Here is a surefire way to see responsibility as a blessing and not a burden. For one day, be responsible for the results you create. Be honest, trusting, and caring, and stand upright with integrity. The simple statement, 'I'm responsible' – whether the outcome is positive or negative – will set you free. If you are still blaming someone else for your life and you are older than, say, a third-grader, it's time to do some major internal excavation – or just continue the course you are on...If you really want to blame someone for the way your life is, buy a mirror. You might not be responsible for the event that allowed you to be a victim, but you are totally in control of your response-ability

    Hi,
Whilst i agree totally with the article.
Today people need help taking this knowledge and putting it into into practice, this happens when only when the person is ready and able to take care of themselves and hence become conscious of what responsibility is.
For me this is the first step.
People write articles all the time, what we need is to help people look inside of themselves to help them make this intellectual truth, their reality.

    Blessing Amanda.

      Hi Amanda,

Thanks for taking the time to post a comment about the "Ponder on This" message for April 7th. You are correct in that the information shared by the author, John St. Augustine, will only benefit those who are indeed "able to take care of themselves and hence become conscious of what responsibility is." To me, the author's quote in this instance is essentially coming from a high-level perspective about the importance of people going within themselves for answers to life's challenges, and for the meaning behind them as well. Because, anytime we look outside of ourselves to "blame" we are immediately put into a disempowering position. While the quote doesn't provide hands-on instruction, please remember that this is merely an excerpt from an entire chapter of his book (i.e., Chapter 4, "It Begins and Ends With You.") If you have an opportunity to do so, I recommend you read that entire chapter.

      Best regards,
      Jeff
