PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 by David Simon in THE TEN COMMITMENTS

"People invest considerable emotional energy in the defense of beliefs they hold to be true. Although this may seem obvious in regards to religious, political, economic and moral beliefs, I frequently see people fervently invest their emotional energy in dietary preferences (low fat versus low carb, vegetable versus meat-based) and health care approaches (allopathic versus naturopathic).

The commitment to truth requires you to continually review your beliefs about the world and your place in it, expanding your capacity to embrace multiple perspectives. As you become less rigid in your perceptions of truth, you become capable of respecting and empathizing with people of diverse beliefs. Maintaining your truth while remaining open to others' points of view has a healing and transformational effect on all relationships: personal, work, cultural, and international."
