BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 by Alan Cohen in DARE TO BE YOURSELF

"Somewhere in our cultural psyche we have developed an image of a very serious God, and this notion has hurt us greatly. We believe that God is an old man with a white beard who sits on a cloud and judges us, ready and eager to cast us into the ovens of hell for the slightest transgression. This is not the God that I know, not is it the God that is. It is a picture of fear that we have projected onto the only figure in life who loves us consistently without condition or clause. We would do well to let this picture go forever; it is a portrait of pain.

God is a God of delight. Remember that gravity is the thing that keeps us bound to earth. Celebration is the energy that brings us true release. The lighter we are, the closer we rise to Heaven."
