BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, May 9th, 2018 by Fr. Anthony DeMello S.J. in WALKING ON WATER

“If you have problems with people get ready for a shock: there’s something wrong with you. There are no problems in dealing with human beings. If you change, everything will change. If you can bring yourself to let go, people will change. You aren’t seeing people as they are but as you are. If someone causes me to be bothered, and in a bad mood, there’s something wrong with me. I have to change!

How can I give someone the power to upset me? How can I give someone the power to decide whether I’m going to be happy or sad? If I give that power to someone, I can’t protect myself from the consequences of what I’m doing. In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments, only consequences. You only have to grow and face them.

We have to have the courage to not let ourselves be manipulated. We are afraid to say no, we’re afraid to tell others to take care of their own life. If we don’t do this, there’s no way of avoiding the consequences of letting ourselves be manipulated.”
