“The decision to take responsibility for discovering your inner “truth” requires that you embark on a quest to develop your own spiritual philosophy. This does not automatically mean you must completely discard your traditional religious beliefs, but it does require that you be willing to question literally every aspect of what you have been taught. It also means that you learn to challenge everything you hear and read as you move along this path, including the contents of this book.

In other words, you no longer simply accept something based solely on what another person’s religious doctrine, or philosophical author tells you is true. Instead, you closely examine it and ask yourself if that truth actually feels right to you. If the insight or concept doesn’t resonate positively within you, this is usually a clear signal that it is time for you to put it aside and replace it with something that will.”

“Sweeping statements such as “Negative thoughts attract negativity in life” aren’t necessarily true, and can make people who are going through a challenging time feel even worse. It can also create fear that they’re going to attract even more negativity with their thoughts. Using this idea indiscriminately often makes people going through seemingly tough times feel as though they’re bad for attracting such events, and that’s just not true. If we start to believe that it’s our negative thoughts that are creating any unpleasant situations, we can become paranoid about what we’re thinking. On the contrary, it actually has less to do with our thoughts than with our emotions, especially what we feel about ourselves.

It’s also not the case that attracting positive things is simply about keeping upbeat. I can’t say this strongly enough, but our feelings about ourselves are actually the most important barometer for determining the condition of our lives! In other words, being true to ourselves is more important than just trying to stay positive!”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, November 14th, 2022 by Fr. Anthony DeMello in AWARENESS

“Take a look at the world and see the unhappiness around you and in you. Do you know what causes this unhappiness? You will probably say loneliness or oppression or war or hatred or atheism. And you will be wrong. There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them.

Because of these false beliefs you see the world and yourself in a distorted way. Your programming is so strong and the pressure of society so intense that you are literally trapped into perceiving the world in this distorted kind of way. There is no way out, because you do not even have a suspicion that your perception is distorted, your thinking is wrong, and your beliefs are false.

Look around you and see if you can find a single genuinely happy person—fearless, free from insecurities, anxieties, tensions, worries. You would be lucky if you found one in a hundred thousand. This should lead you to be suspicious of the programming and the beliefs that you and they hold in common. But you have also been programmed not to suspect, not to doubt, just to trust the assumptions that have been put into you by your tradition, your culture, your society, your religion. And if you are not happy, you have been trained to blame yourself, not your programming, not your cultural and inherited ideas and beliefs. What makes it even worse is the fact that most people are so brainwashed that they do not even realize how unhappy they are.”

“Anything in this vast Universe is possible. Do not allow anyone to tell you differently. If everyone doubted their ability to accomplish their dreams we would have no automobiles, no aircraft, no electricity, no computers, and we would still believe that the world was flat. Connect to the immense power of the celestial force and realize how much in life is actually achievable and within your reach. Tap into your vibrant energy center and set yourself up for greatness. Always remain conscious of the fact that limits, boundaries, “cant’s,” impossibilities, and restrictions are all part of your finite ego and have nothing to do with the truth of the boundless cosmos.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, November 10th, 2022 by Polly Campbell in IMPERFECT SPIRITUALITY

“What we want and what our spirit needs, is to be whole and harmonious, to feel complete and aligned with mind, body, and spirit. When we spend time trying to fix and deny and hide entire dimensions of ourselves, we move out of that alignment. That derails our best efforts and biggest dreams by leading us further from spirit. We do things like gossip and Facebook frequently. We drink too much and shop too much and work too much in an effort to avoid the uncomfortable feelings, the uncertainties, and the truth of all that we are.

These things work for a bit. They keep us busy so we have little time for introspection. But then those frivolous time wasters or addictions become one more reason to beat ourselves up, another imperfection that we have to go about fixing or hiding. When we decide to see who we are, we become free. Then there is room for growth. We move from feeling trapped and stuck into a position of openness and gratitude for all that we are. We become more accountable for our actions and our lives.

Research by psychology professor Mark Leary indicates that people who admit their mistakes seem to rest easier, be more responsible, and more compassionate. Understanding our imperfections frees us to explore different avenues of self-understanding and improvement. This is not mediocrity; it is movement. How are you go and how much you grow all depends on your motivation.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 by Jeff Maziarek in SPIRITUALITY SIMPLIFIED

“The truth is you actually spend very little time being fully aware of what is occurring in any given moment. If you are like most people, your mind is always trending towards thoughts about the past (i.e., regrets, anger, reminiscing), or thoughts about what may or will occur (i.e., worries, anticipated events).

The present is real simply because it is the only time that your total being (i.e., mind and body) actually experiences. Ponder on this for a moment: “Is your body ever physically in the past or the future when you’re thinking about either of them?” The answer is of course a resounding NO, which makes it very obvious that any time other than the present exists solely within your mind. So, as your mind continues its habit of wandering both forward and backward, you are obviously not taking full advantage of the only worthwhile time you actually do have.”

Now here’s today’s Ponder message:

“Visualization by itself is a marvelous process for attracting to us what we desire. The problem is that what I call our “human-ness” gets in the way. Being human, our minds and emotions kick into gear and become engulfed in achieving our goal. Therefore, as quickly as we do our first visualization on our goal or desire, we become attached to it. And if we are attached to our goal or desire, then our mind and emotions begin to monitor, manage, control, validate, adjust, push, and comment on every step and occurrence in the process of obtaining our goal.

We get frustrated if we do not see progress as soon or as fast as we expected. If we do not see the type of progress we anticipated, then we quickly make adjustments in the approach. We continually check and re-check our approach and become more assertive and aggressive to ensure we reach our goal. We begin to visualize much more often, writing out and looking at pictures of our goal more often. All of these actions and feelings are based in fear, because we have become attached to our goal.

Let go of your attachment to the goal. Allow it to breathe. KNOW that your goal can be obtained if you are preparing correctly and have the correct mindset.”

“As we grow older, it becomes apparent that to defer constantly to others and seek their approval is not the most efficient way to get ahead. Yet, most of us continue with this ineffective behavior. Sometimes, we experiment with selfishness but usually discover that it produces bad feelings within us as a result of our early conditioning. “Nice” people aren’t supposed to be selfish too often. Even though we know that success in our endeavors requires a certain measure of self-centeredness, we continue to be nice. The only reward for this is our self-righteousness about our great “virtue.”

So it is with many of the other “selfless” virtues. But this is, in fact, pretentious and covert behavior. Often we disguise our concern for ourselves as concern for others, and we continue to purchase the approval of others by giving up our right to get our own way. We often allow others to treat us unfairly because we do not want to confront or challenge them, nor do we wish to disturb our deeply ingrained notions of right and wrong. Instead, we comfort ourselves with feelings of moral superiority. We tell ourselves that we are above engaging in conflict over unimportant trifles. But despite what we think, we turn the other cheek; not because it is right, but because it is easy.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, November 4th, 2022 by Arnold Patent in YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL

“Any discomfort we experience is a result of locking energy in our bodies. More particularly, it is a result of attaching thoughts to feelings. Something occurred in our experience which we interpreted in a way that created the attachment. This usually occurs when we perceive that another person is expressing less than unconditional love and support for us. Such a judgment stops the free flow of feelings through our bodies.

How then do we release the energy block? Stated another way, how do we detach the thought or judgment from the feeling? From my examination of the various alternatives offered, I find the simplest and most effective to be the concept of forgiveness, which is really the complete suspension of judgment.

As we practice forgiving the person we previously judged, or are judging, as unloving toward us, we loosen the attachment of the judgment to the feeling. Since some of our judgments run deep and strong, we must practice forgiveness for an extended period, until we release the judgment totally.”

“Your body is genetically coded to keep you alive, and unless you actively do something to inhibit its defenses, it will do everything in its power to preserve your health and life. A great example of this tendency toward perfect health is the body’s immediate response to injury.  Whenever you cut yourself in a minor way, as you well know, it is simply a matter of moments before the injury begins to heal itself by first clotting the blood in the area, and then immediately beginning to rebuild the damaged tissue.

It is literally remarkable that a myriad of activities is occurring within you at all times, and you effectively have nothing to do with it, as the God-Force is quietly and efficiently taking care of all the details. If you pause for a moment right now to think about all of this, there really is no other way to describe your entire physical life as being anything less than an absolute miracle. However, how many of us really sit down to appreciate that miracle on a daily basis? Granted it’s tough to do that, especially in today’s incredibly hectic world, but just the slightest awareness you give to that miracle every day will help to improve your connection with the Divine intelligence that is responsible for that miracle.”

“Being able to admit a mistake is a sign of humility, which is a prized mystic virtue. It does not mean you’re a doormat or that you are subservient to somebody else. Acknowledging your having been mistaken about anything, and then changing your mind after gathering more complete information and thoroughly thinking things through is a sign of being logical, thorough, thoughtful, and wise. Your prime allegiance is to the truth, regardless of where it originates…Once you get into the habit of allowing yourself to say “I changed my mind” and “I was wrong” (7 words), you will experience newfound freedom. You will have taken 7 powerful steps towards the mystic virtue of wisdom.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, November 1st, 2022 by Sharon Stroud in GRATITUDE, A WAY OF LIFE BY LOUISE HAY AND FRIENDS

“I have discovered that gratitude is a way of being. When we become cognizant that everything in this life is a gift from the Universe, and what we make of this thing called ‘life’ is our gift back to the Universe, our awareness is deepened. Gratitude is a tangible substance emanating from the person feeling this emotion. This substance permeates environments, clothing and objects.

Gratitude as a “way of being” begins to manifest itself as the art and science of blessing. It makes sense when we realize that all life operates on a vibrational frequency of energy. The energy that we bring to life is the same energy that returns to us. This gets tricky when we don’t receive the results in life we want. However, each experience redeems itself through our willingness to get its message and accept the gift it offers in its wake. This creates the space for miracles.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, October 31st, 2022 by Tony Burroughs in THE LAW OF AGREEMENT

“The way to make a positive change in your life and in the lives of everyone in our world is to put the Law of Agreement to work on your behalf. The Law of Agreement ensures that as we lend our agreement to any belief, we reinforce it; we make it stronger. Conversely, when we refrain from lending our agreement to an idea that isn’t likely to give us the results we’re looking for, we dilute it; we weaken its power over us and its power over everyone simultaneously.

Using the Law of Agreement can change things is a hurry. Now what we are armed with this new information, every belief or snippet of propaganda that comes our way becomes an opportunity for us to take a stand. We can make a difference in our world every time a new idea is presented to us. Whereas in the past we may have been on autopilot and found ourselves nodding or agreeing with propositions without thinking too much about them, now we can utilize the Law of Agreement several times a day. Indeed, we’re being called on to make life-changing choices on such a steady basis that it is important for us to be more alert than ever to what we agree with (or withhold our agreement from), lest we add to that which no longer serves us, to that which is blatantly obsolete, to that which brings us harm, or to that which we wouldn’t want to manifest in a gazillion years.”

“The easiest and most obvious way to formulate an idea is to visualize it, to see it in your mind’s eye as vividly as if it were alive. You can see with the naked eye only what already exists in the external world; in a similar way, that which you can visualize in your mind’s eye already exists in the invisible realms of your mind.

Any picture which you have in your mind is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. What you form in your imagination is as real as any part of your body. The idea and the thought are real and will one day appear in your objective world if you are faithful to your mental image.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, October 27th, 2022 by Clinton Ober in EARTHING

“Throughout history, humans have strolled, sat, stood, and slept on the ground – the skin of their bodies touching the skin of the Earth – oblivious to the fact that such simple contact transfers a natural electrical signal to the body. Only recently has the knowledge and significance of this connection been explored and explained by scientific experts in geophysics, bio-physics, electrical engineering, electrophysiology, and medicine. From them, we are leaning that the Earth’s electrical energy maintains the order of our own bodily frequencies just as a conductor controls the coherence and cadence of an orchestra.

We all live and function electrically on an electrical planet. We are each of us a collection of dynamic electrical circuits. In the living matrix of our complex bodies, trillions of cells constantly transmit and receive energy in the course of their programmed biochemical reactions. Think of them as microscopic electronic machines. The movement of nutrients and water into the cells is regulated by electric fields, and each type of cell has a frequency range in which it operates. Your heart, brain, nervous system, muscles and immune system are prime examples of electrical subsystems operating within your “bioelectrical” body. The fact is, all of your movements, behaviors, and actions are energized by electricity…

Most of us in the modern, industrialized world live disconnected from the Earth’s surface. Although it is not something you probably have ever thought about, you may be suffering needlessly because of this disconnect. And you may be suffering severely, and in more ways than you could ever imagine…Disconnected, the body seems vulnerable and prone to dysfunction, inflammation-related disease, and accelerated aging – a startling theory just beginning to gather scientific momentum.”
