BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, September 13th, 2007 by Paul Ferrini in THE 12 STEPS OF FORGIVENESS

"Every moment we live is a moment that asks us to make some gesture of forgiveness. Every time we judge ourselves or another, every time we feel fear and attack, every time we want to attack but force ourselves not to, every time we justify our attack or our defense, we are asked to forgive. But what does this mean?

It means that I realize first of all that however I feel is just how I feel now. I may have felt that way in the past, but that doesn’t make this any more real than that was. Using the past to justify my anger, just reinforces my anger. So I must leave the past be.

I don’t carry the past into the present and I don’t carry the present into the future. I just accept the present as it is. That is forgiveness."
