BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 by Jeff Maziarek in SPIRITUALITY SIMPLIFIED

“If you find yourself wanting to branch out and develop your own spiritual philosophy, but are concerned about any repercussions that may result, remember that ultimately being true to yourself (i.e., seeking self-approval) is far more important than living for the approval of others. While this may sound like clichéd advice, consider this: throughout your life, has receiving the approval of others ever really provided you with any real peace-of-mind or long-lasting contentment?

I’ll take the liberty of answering for you: no, it hasn’t. Do you know why not? Approval is fleeting, as it can quickly change to condemnation the moment you do something that someone judges to be inappropriate or wrong. So instead of being focused on pleasing others, have the courage to change your focus toward pleasing yourself, and you will ultimately discover a great truth–seeking approval from outside yourself is a total waste of time.”
