BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 by Pete Koerner in THE BELIEF FORMULA

“Our beliefs are programmed into us from birth. Everything that we experience becomes a permanent part of us and we use these experiences to build a sort of database with which we judge subsequent experiences. We are told about God and, depending on what we were told, we either believe in Him or not. If we were told there was no God, for instance, we would believe that until we had an experience that convinced us otherwise, or until we had acquired enough knowledge to form some contrary opinion based on what we have come to know and believe. These beliefs become who we are and control everything we do and experience. They are basically the computer programs that are loaded into, and control, our autopilot system, or subconscious.

When we aren’t consciously acting on some thought, our subconscious is driving the car for us, in a manner of speaking. Our beliefs tell our subconscious mind how, and where, we want to be “driven;” and they operate our control systems according to those parameters. If you believe you will never amount to anything in this life, then even when you aren’t actively doing anything in particular, your subconscious is making arrangements to help you never amount to anything. You have to take an active role in programming your beliefs instead of simply accepting beliefs from someone else; you never know what those beliefs will lead to. Why not believe in something you truly want?”
