“To put ourselves through continued suffering because we believe we must atone for past “evil” deeds is self-created suffering. At that point, the lesson we must learn is not related to the original error, but one of releasing ourself from the masochism of unworthiness. We do not need to go out of our way to find ways to pay off our “‘bad karma.” God is clever enough to find ways for us to pay our debts. He will send us enough lessons and challenges, compassionately well-timed, to offset our karmic obligations. We do not need to add to them; He knows His business. I once heard, “Never trouble trouble ’til trouble troubles you.” As I see it, if life is offering us no troubles, we might as well take advantage of the time and enjoy ourselves.”
