BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, November 1st, 2021 by John Selby in EXPAND THIS MOMENT

“Is there any reason not to honor and love yourself as you are right now? I remember sitting many times under the oak trees in Ojai, or in an auditorium in Europe or elsewhere, and listening to Krishnamurti as he guided us patiently through a clear logical analysis of why self-judgment is an entirely unnecessary function of the human mind, and why self-love is essential to spiritual health and fulfillment.

He would point out that many religious leaders had done their best to convince us that we are hopeless sinners who can be made whole only by the intercession of an external God or occult power. He would state emphatically that this particular “you’re born a hopeless sinner” belief was not a clear reflection of reality, and that accepting such a priestly dictum was spiritual suicide. Here is one of his more acerbic statements:

“Religion is the frozen thought of man out of which they build temples. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a sick belief system.”
