PONDER on THIS for Monday, April 17th, 2023 by William Murtha in CREATE YOUR OWN LIFE STORY

“In everyday behaviour change, you must accept that regular but temporary setbacks will be part of your life journey. Mini failures and stumbles will occur as you try to painfully let go of unwanted behaviours that trip you up. Whenever I encourage a client to expand their comfort zone by stepping into the unknown and unfamiliar, I remind them that temporary setbacks are their friend, not their foe. Temporary failure is evidence that you are taking action, tangible proof that you are daring to push these boundaries and take risks. You cannot change any unwanted habit or behaviour if you don’t first step into the sometimes scary and uncomfortable territory of taking action.

Those who have befriended failure come to appreciate that it offers us valuable life lessons. Instead of fearing it, learn to lean into failure, not away from it. In time, you will train your mind to accept each mini-disaster as you come to it. When you understand that this is all part of the growth process, you will see how these small trials actually build up your mental strength and resilience. If the action of accepting failure willingly is beyond what you can imagine right now, don’t worry. Just try to hold the thought that, eventually with practice, you will be able to train your mind to accept it as a normal part of everyday life.”
