BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, February 7th, 2008 by John Van Auken, in BORN AGAIN & AGAIN

“The question crying out for an answer is, “If we have lived before, why don’t we remember it? The answer is both simple and complex. The simple answer is, “Because we have not lived before.” This is not completely true, but it is relatively true because the “you”” and “I” that we consider to be ourselves has not lived before. We think of ourselves as composed of personality (which includes the conscious mind) and body. The current conscious mind, personality, and body are new; they have not been alive before. Nor have they reincarnated in the true sense of the word. However, our souls have been alive before—this is the distinction—and they have reincarnated. The memories are thus our souls; not ours.”

PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 by by Alan Cohen, in WHY YOUR LIFE SUCKS AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT

“Continuing to go back and forth after you’ve made a decision is even more excruciating than saying yes while meaning no. If you have already said yes, then go with it, and do the same for no. Often it does not matter what you decide; it just matters that you do decide. The universe will rally around any decision you make; be sure you are rallying with it. Your decisions are honorable because they are your own. You can make any decision work if you believe in it. If the results of your decisions suck, you may not have made bad decisions; you might just be doubting yourself. You are either criticizing your choice now or you did not heed your inner voice when you first chose. Second-guessing yourself is a sort of postpartum procrastination. If you sit in the middle of the road, you will get hit by traffic moving in both directions. Quit mind-screwing yourself and give your creations the support they deserve.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 by Diane K. Osbon in REFLECTIONS ON THE ART OF LIVING: A JOSEPH CAMPBELL COMPANION

“I am more convinced that there is a plane of consciousness that we are all sharing, and that the brain is a limiting machine that pulls it in. It is possible to sink back, lose this definition, and participate in that plane of consciousness. How else do you explain extrasensory perception? And since time is a form of sensibility—meaning, that which is going to happen has already happened in a certain sense—you cannot say the premonitions are coincidences. They are not. They happen too often to be attributed to chance.

I’ve had such experiences on enough occasions to attest to that: meeting somebody, having a kind of “‘click,” and knowing that you are going to do something important together that will be a major feature in your lives. I mean, when you meet people who are going to be of deep significance in your life, knowing it’s going to happen is somehow right there in the first meeting. It’s a mysterious business.”

PONDER on THIS for Monday, February 4th, 2008 by Shirley MacLaine in SAGE-ING WHILE AGE-ING

“It is clear that we are killing one another over religion. It is high time we tried spirituality, which I believe religion was intended to be in the first place. I believe we are the repository of a vast body of knowledge that even supersedes our ability to cope with it. That is why so much of it is ridiculed and mocked. But a flat world was easier to cope with than a round one. It was easier to cope with our one world which the sun revolved around alone in the universe than what seems to be slowly transpiring as multi-specied world universes which revolve around billions of suns. It is time we wake up to the knowledge we’ve forgotten we possess and understand that each of us has a function in a gazillion-person band of spirits.”

PONDER on THIS Special Message for Sunday, February 3rd, 2008 by Pete Koerner in THE BELIEF FORMULA

“Imagine you are standing in line at a fast-food restaurant. When it is your moment at the counter, you have a choice to make. You can ask for what you want, or you can ask for what you do not want. Whatever you ask for, however, is what you get. Like it or not, it is your choice. Who can choose for you? Life is actually a bit more to the point, or a bit more attentive to your “order,” than the person at the fast food restaurant – not wasting anytime creating what you have asked for, and not holding back on the variety of manifestations it shows you.

In other words, people who spend their days stewing in the misery, anger, and depression that only perpetuates itself in the absence of some positive intervention, are people I imagine stepping up to the counter and saying, ‘I’ll have the rotten garbage, with a side order of despair. And make it quick, I haven’t got all day! Oh, and give me a large diet cola with that, too.” You get what you ask for; and in life, spending time thinking about something is indeed asking for it. That is the nature of thought and prayer. Be careful what you ask for, you will most likely get it!”

PONDER on THIS for Friday, February 1st, 2008 by Don Miguel Ruiz in THE VOICE OF KNOWLEDGE

“Love and respect are what we should also teach our children, but the only way to teach them love and respect is to love and respect ourselves. There is no other way. Again, we can only give them what we have, not what we don’t have. I can only share what I know. I cannot tell you anything that I don’t know. My parents taught me what they learned from their parents. How could they teach me something different? They could not do better than that. I cannot blame my parents for the programming I received. I cannot blame my teachers for the training I received in school. They did their best; it was the only thing they knew, and they passed it on to the next generation.

The only chance to break the chain is to change the adults, to change ourselves.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, January 31st, 2008 by Fr. Anthony DeMello S.J. in WALKING ON WATER

“How do human beings become robots? Listen to this: “Oh, you’re so pretty.” And the robot swells with pride. I push the appreciation button and it’s riding high. Then, I push the other button, the criticism one, and it hits bottom. Complete control. We are so affected by approval! So easily controllable. And when deprived of it, we are frightened of making mistakes, afraid that people are going to laugh.

How to get out of this? We have to understand why we can’t live without people’s approval. How to love people? Die to them. Die to the need for people. Understand what the drug is doing to you. Be patient with yourself. Then call the drug by its name: it is an artificial stimulant. Do you really want to live? Savor your senses, your mind. Appreciate your work, nature, go to the mountains and appreciate the trees and the stars, the night. Send the crowds away. And you will be completely alone. Then love will be born in solitude.”

PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 by Alan Cohen in DARE TO BE YOURSELF

“Your uniqueness is the one gift that no one in this world can ever crowd you on. Don’t fall prey to discouragement by comparing yourself to other people. You may look to others for inspiration, but never use them as a fulcrum for self-deprecation. Your gifts are just as valuable as anyone’s, and to the extent that you are willing to bless and express your particular gifts, the world will reward you and take care of you. That’s the way God gets her kids to do what we came here to do.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 by Stuart Wilde in SILENT POWER

“It’s very difficult to impress people with words, isn’t it? Even though you may have done some incredible things, the very fact that you’re telling others will make them react negatively. They will compare themselves to you and either see themselves in a bad light—which may make them angry—or consider themselves better than you—so you haven’t impressed them anyway. By talking to impress people, you set up a competition. It’s irritating.

You can imply power and knowledge by not saying much. At most, offer something such as: “Ah, yes. Certainly. I know. Uh-huh. I understand.” You can exude silent strength with just a tilt of the head, by rubbing your chin, with a wry smile, or by looking people in the eye. Never forget, you are a genius until you open your mouth.”

PONDER on THIS for Monday, January 28th, 2008 by Rhonda Byrne in THE SECRET

“You cannot “catch” anything unless you think you can, and thinking you can is inviting it to you with your thought. You are also inviting illness if you are listening to people talking about their illness. As you listen you are giving all of your thought and focus to illness, and when you give all of your thought to something, you are asking for it. And you are certainly not helping them. You are adding energy to their illness. If you really want to help that person, change the conversation to good things, if you can, or be on your way. As you walk away, give your powerful thoughts and feelings to seeing that person well, and then let it go.”

PONDER on THIS Special Message for Sunday, January 27th, 2008 by Pete Koerner in THE BELIEF FORMULA

“Heroes are born when fear dies. We all seem to recognize when someone has transcended, even if just for a moment, the limitations of their beliefs of mortality and weakness. We admire these individuals, for they remind us of our transcendent nature. We are comforted somehow to know that we all possess such capacity for greatness and that ours, too, will be waiting on us when we need it most. This greatness is real, we have seen it in all types of human beings, but the idea that is waiting for you is misleading.

Greatness waits for no person, but falls on he who seeks it. Greatness is only waiting for you to invite it in, believing, and allow what comes. When I speak of greatness, I am speaking of fulfillment in any endeavor you choose with your heart. I am speaking of surrendering to the heart and following wherever it may lead you. I am speaking of letting go of fear and replacing it with thoughts of faith, gratitude, trust, and courage; for it is these thoughts that will bring these things into your life.”

BEST PONDER on THIS Message for Saturday, January 26th, 2008

“In the audio program called “Wake Up to Life” by the late Fr. Anthony DeMello, I was was struck by the following statement he made: “The reality is there is too much God talk; the world is sick of it, and sick from it. There is too little awareness, too little love, too little happiness. That’s what the world is suffering from, not from a lack of religion.” When I took a moment to ponder on that observation I couldn’t help but agree with him.

Billions of people on this planet are absolutely certain they know who or what God is, and these “God-concepts” are what primarily lead to all the religious strife and violence in the world. Some are so convinced of their concept they’ll even kill themselves for it, and kill others as well, all for a belief they learned from someone else but never personally experienced. And, this has been going on for centuries. It’s really amazing when you stop and think rationally about it.

On the audio Fr. DeMello also includes this quote from St. Thomas Aquinas, one of the most revered of Christian saints: “About God, we cannot say what He is, but rather, what He is NOT.” In other words, the highest form of knowledge of God is to know God as the unknown. Or taking it a step further, the highest form of talking about God is to know that one does not know. According to DeMello, the fact is we are all surrounded by God, but we don’t see God because we all think we know about him, and the terrible thing about religions is they think they know as well.

Based on all the religious-based violence on this planet, wouldn’t it be wonderful if, as DeMello once said, we had a world where instead everybody just said, “We don’t know.” Now that’s food for thought in my view.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, January 25th, 2008 by Stuart Wilde in THE LITTLE MONEY BIBLE

“As I’ve said elsewhere in my writings, there are trillions of dollars zipping about electronically on any given day. Those electronic signals are literally passing through your body right now, as are all the TV and radio signals that are in your local area. If you stop and think about the millions flowing through your hands at the moment, imagine making a slight flick of the wrist in order to halt some of that loot in transit, so it sticks in the palm of your hand. A flick of the mind is faster than a flick of the wrist.

Money is good. Greed is not good. However, there is no reason why you can’t be very rich, stinking rich, in fact, and still be an extremely spiritual and wonderfully generous person aligned to the God Force, with a huge heart and compassion for everyone you meet.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, January 24th, 2008 by Louise Hay in YOU CAN HEAL YOUR LIFE

“I believe we create every so-called “illness” in our body. The body, like everything else in life, is a mirror of our inner thoughts and beliefs. The body is always talking to us, if we will only take time to listen. Every cell within your body responds to every single thought you think and every word you speak.

Continuous modes of thinking and speaking produce body behaviors and postures and eases or dis-eases. The person who has a permanently scowling face did not produce that by having joyous, loving thoughts. Older people’s faces and bodies show so clearly a lifetime of thinking patterns. How will you look when you are elderly?”

“Patience is the display of tolerance while awaiting an outcome. You are presented with the lesson of patience the moment you try to create a change within yourself. You expect immediate results and are often disappointed when your first few attempts to follow through fall short. When people who try to lose weight cheat on their diets, they get very frustrated with themselves for not being able to stay with their new eating regime and berate themselves for not changing their patterns.

As you already know, change is rarely easy, and you need to exercise gentleness and patience with yourself as you work your way through this process. Growth can be a slow, painstaking process and patience will provide you with the stamina you need to become the person you want to be.”
