“Grace operates outside of the typical human ways of doing things. People want to believe they’re in control. In fact, people feel like they need to be in control in order not to feel out of control. As a result of this natural ego component, people assume they can do specific things to ensure they are rewarded. Since it seems to the ego as though most things in life are earned through hard work and effort, people expect that work is also required to “rise to the top” spiritually.

People expect the “gifts of God” to be given out according to some recognizable plan that entails rules, conditions, prerequisites, and effort. To some degree, we certainly do have a role to play: We need to show up, be available, participate, surrender, and let go of whatever we’ve been holding on to. But ultimately grace is freely given, not earned in any way.”

“Why do people spend their lives doing things that they do not love? Because they believe in scarcity rather than abundance. They will tell you, “I don’t have enough to do whatever I want, so have to do the things I do.” Or “I can’t afford to do what I love.” Or, “I have no other choice – I’ve got to pay my bills.” Or “I don’t know anything else.”

Look at these reasons very carefully. They all imply that there is a scarcity of what is needed to survive. The person feels forced, by virtue of this scarcity, to continue in whatever work he/she is doing to fulfill his/her outer needs. However, if you understand that what you focus on expands, then you begin to see the folly in ever trying to fill in the gaps by doing what you loathe. The loathsomeness is what continues to expand, because that is where all of the energy is centered.”

“One of the most pervasive of all the same old tricks being shoved at us is contagion. Also known as playing catch, it suggests that we can catch sickness from other people. While this is true, it’s only under one condition: we have to believe that we can.

It no different than when we were kids and someone said, “Hey, let’s play catch!” and they threw the ball at us. In most cases, we couldn’t resist reaching out and catching it. In real life, however, it’s not wise for us to reach out and catch every ball that comes our way. We serve ourselves and all those around us better if we simply let the ball go by and go on about our day.

Playing catch describes the entire foundation upon which contagiousness, or the germ theory of disease, is built. It depends 100 percent on our gullibility, on our openness to reach out and believe in ideas that don’t serve us but which engender huge profits for those who have a vested interest in them. Germ theory is just a theory – it’s not a fact at all…For germ theory to work we have to forget that our thoughts and not a bunch of little bugs, are creating our experiences.”

People don’t agree with loafing – they feel it implies laziness.
