BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, July 2nd, 2012 by Fr. Anthony DeMello in AWARENESS

“Can you imagine the relief when you don’t have to impress anybody anymore? Oh, what a relief. Happiness at last. You no longer feel the need or the compulsion to explain things anymore. What is there to be explained? And you don’t feel the need or compulsion to apologize anymore. I’d much rather hear you say, “I’ve come awake,” than hear you say, “I’m sorry.” I’d much rather hear you say, “I’ve come awake since we last met; what I did to you won’t happen again,” than to hear you say, “I’m so sorry for what I did to you.” Why would anyone demand an apology? You have something to explore in that. Even when someone supposedly was mean to you, there is no room for apology.

Nobody was mean to you. Somebody was mean to what he our she thought was you, but not to you. Nobody ever rejects you; they’re only rejecting what they think you are. But that cuts both ways. Nobody ever accepts you either. Until people come awake, they are simply accepting or rejecting this image of you. They’ve fashioned an image of you, and they’re rejecting or accepting that. See how devastating it is to go deeply into that. It’s a bit too liberating. But how easy it is to love people when you understand this. How easy it is to love everyone when you don’t identify with what they imagine you are or they are. It becomes easy to love them, to love everybody.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, June 29th, 2012 by Jeff Maziarek in SPIRITUALITY SIMPLIFIED

“The term forgiveness is familiar to virtually all people, yet it is very likely that few truly understand its real meaning. Most individuals tend to regard forgiveness as being a truly magnanimous gesture on their part: one that is undertaken on behalf of the other person. Moreover, those individuals who, as rule practice forgiveness in their lives, tend to be viewed as upstanding human beings of great moral or spiritual fiber. While some folks may merit such lofty praise, the startling truth is that at its most fundamental level, forgiveness is more a selfish act than a noble one…

The reason for this is quite simple – a sincere act of forgiveness allows us to release negative energy (i.e., excessive levels of adrenaline, other stress hormones) that can literally become toxic to the cells within our bodies. This next passage from Discover the Power Within You by Eric Butterworth supports this very point:

“Actually, forgiveness is the simplest way to lighten our burdens. The man who forgives is no more saintly than one who insists upon keeping clean. In reality, the act of forgiveness constitutes a mental bath – letting go of something that can only poison us within.”

Whenever we are unwilling to forgive, what we are doing is wasting a portion of our valuable present moment energy on something that no longer exists, except within the confines of our own mind.”

“There is one thing for sure; if you have passion and zest for your work, you will be successful and rise to the top of whatever you do. Daily effort that correlates highly with your purpose in life lets you know that you are on the path created specifically for your unique soul. You have an innate purpose that you must discover in your life, which results in not “working” but living your ultimate purpose. This purpose becomes your life and transforms the way you exist. Find it and live it. This is your job that the Universe has hired you for.”

“Every situation is an opportunity to grow; everything that happens is giving you the opportunity to become stronger, wiser, and more loving. Everything that happens to you is for your higher good. Some situations offer you the opportunity to release an attachment or let go of an emotion that no longer serves you. Allowing your higher good means knowing deep inside that you are safe and loved and that your Higher Self is always working for you.

Start now to tell yourself that the Universe is perfect and that everything you do and everything that happens to you is perfect. As you grow spiritually, you will gain a greater understanding of why things are happening, and you will come to see the perfection in everything that occurs. From the perspective of today, you may be able to look back into the past and know that things you once interpreted as negative offered you growth and new beginnings.”

“Every single day the media shows us why we should be afraid to get out of bed. Turn off the TV and get about your business. The world is full of people worrying about how they are going to die – from what disease or accident, the victim of some stalker or freak event. Don’t be afraid of dying. Be terrified of not being fully alive while you have the chance. There are mountains to climb, books to write, diseases to cure, and hands to hold. If not by you, then by whom? And if not now…when?”

“All psychological problems are the result of our inability to express our feelings. We’re frightened. We don’t know how to express feelings, either negative or positive. We can speak about our problems, but not about feelings.

The inhibited person suffers from emotional constipation. Being in good physical condition requires internal generation, that is, that nutrients generate energy and what’s left be discarded. Nutrients have to pass through the body regularly. Likewise, the generation of feelings requires continual discharging. We must let it flow. Otherwise, the psychological buildup is poisonous.”

“Of the multitude of questions that arise in a person’s life, there is little doubt the most challenging one to find an answer for is, “Who am I?” It is likely that throughout all of recorded history, this single question has at one point or another at least crossed the mind of virtually every human being that has ever lived. While some people do seek an answer to this important question, the reality is most choose to push it out of their minds, for the simple reason that the act of contemplating upon who they really are actually serves to make life even more complicated than it already is! This tendency on the part of mankind to live “unexamined” lives is what the late Fr. Anthony DeMello was referring to when he said these words:

Most people, even though they don’t know it, are asleep. They’re born asleep, they live asleep, they marry in their sleep, they breed children in their sleep, and they die in their sleep without ever waking up. They never understand the loveliness and the beauty of this thing that we call human existence.

The desire to remain asleep is quite strong; the fact is it’s much easier to stay focused on the every day world than it is to pay attention to the whisperings of one’s soul. The process of waking up is very unpleasant for most people, because it requires that an individual be willing to seriously question the foundation of his or her entire belief system, including every one of his or her core beliefs about the very nature of existence.

While it may appear easier to just remain asleep, the truth is that avoiding introspection is never beneficial in the long run, for the calling of the soul is very powerful. The more you try to suppress it, the more challenging it becomes to experience true happiness in life. Therefore, the best course of action is to make the effort to wake up, to step outside of your so-called comfort zone, and be willing to explore previously uncharted territory, so that you may ultimately come to an understanding of who you really are.

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, June 21st, 2012 by Annemarie Greenwood and Marissa Campbell in LIFE: LIVING IN FULFILLMENT EVERY DAY

“The only guarantee in life is change. When you are lost in the promises of some distant future, waiting for the magical day when you will finally be happy, all your energy is draining toward some future event, with little left over for enjoying the here and now. You need to spend your energy wisely…by learning how to accept what is happening in your life right now. By making peace with your present circumstances, you will get a far greater return.

That’s not to say that your life at present is all bliss and flowers…You are working toward a future goal, which is a noble endeavor, but hoping that these actions will make you happier later is a waste of your energy, and it doesn’t help to make you any happier now. Accepting the present does not mean you give up any hope of changing your situation, but it does mean that in order to make any real change, you have to first accept where and who you are. Right here, right now!…We all think that the future out there is full of wondrous possibilities, but everything wonderful happens in the here and now.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, June 20th, 2012 by Dan Millman in EVERYDAY ENLIGHTENMENT

“The wisdom, the power, the courage, the love, the kingdom of Heaven – are inside us. It’s just that we forget. We forget to trust ourselves; we forget to listen; we forget to pay attention to the highest and best inside us. We forget because we’ve been sleeping, slumbering, dreaming, wishing, hoping, while love has been waking us, shaking us, calling us to open the shades and let in the light of awareness. It’s time to take hold of our lives, time to accept ourselves, our world, and our present reality even as we aspire to our highest ideals.

Awakening your heart produces a natural, graceful, expansive state of unconditional love – no strings attached. That means you cannot help but love, even when others do not love you back. It does NOT mean that you always FEEL an emotion of love or that you love every personality; it means you have found the will to treat others with kindness and compassion irrespective of feelings.”

PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 by Karen Monteverdi in LIVING CONSCIOUSLY IN AN EGO DRIVEN SOCIETY

“…Emotions can be a barometer of how one experiences life. Signs of being in ego include feelings and language of blame, shame, judgment, domination, guilt, and a disproportionate need to compete. The list goes on and on. When we recognize that we are caught up in one of these experiences, we can actually begin to retrain the biochemistry of our mind if we immediately stop and say “Oh that’s ego. What is true for me is____________” and allow a statement of truth to come to the forefront of our mind. This happens when we take 100% responsibility for our experience and begin to notice where we are in error and where we are failing to accept the reality of the situation.

When we allow for others (even in acts of violence towards one another), to have their own experiences, we begin to see life differently. This does not mean we must stand by and do nothing about the physical reality of victimizations. The opposite actually occurs when we take 100% responsibility for our experience. Because we are now responsible for our own experience and are no longer being victimized ourselves, we are able to respond quickly with ease and decisiveness, and create empowerment for all.”

“The first thing to remember about judgments is that they do not alter anything or anyone in the Universe. Just because you dislike someone or react negatively toward some behavior does not change the person or behavior you are judging. I remind you again to keep in mind that when you judge another, you do not define that person, you define YOURSELF. Your judgments only say something about you. They describe your likes and dislikes. They do not define the person being judged. That person is defined by his or her own thoughts and actions. Once you recognize this, you begin replacing your inclination to judge with acceptance, and this is forgiveness in action.”

“From all that I’ve read and experienced, I have come to believe that the God-Force is not some autocratic monarch in the sky, but is actually a pure loving energy that supports us in our growth in a detached manner. We are therefore not the subjects of some “Cosmic King” with no power of our own, but are instead individual pieces of God-consciousness with the ability to co-create with God that which we desire.

Now clearly this concept of co-creation carries with it enormous responsibility, for it means that in the end it is you who are fully responsible for everything that you experience in you life. However, it is also incredibly empowering, for as along as you maintain the notion that something or someone else is out there doing things to you, you effectively render yourself powerless to do anything about it.”

“Abundance is a state of mind in which you believe you are intrinsically creative. You are inherently confident that your basic needs will be met. Your inner value is independent of your outer possessions. You recognize that the universe is abundant, and that you are an expression of the universe.

Commit to abundance consciousness. On a daily basis, before going to sleep, take an inventory of your life and allow your heart to fill with gratitude for the things, experiences and people in your life. Even during those times when your life is not unfolding the way you would like it to, bring abundance into your awareness, and you will notice a shift in your perspective. With this inner shift, you will observe a spontaneous decongestion in the external circumstances creating turbulence for you.”

“Every moment is utterly unique and will not be continued in eternity. This fact gives life its poignancy and should concentrate your attention on what you are experiencing now. I think that’s washed out a bit by the notion that everyone will be happy in heaven. You had better be happy here, now. You’d better experience the eternal here and now.  Being “happy with Him/Her forever in heaven” means that while you are here on earth you should be happy: that is to say, your life should be identified with the Divine power, the eternal power in all life.

If you concretize the symbol of heaven, the whole situation disintegrates. You think, for example, that eternity is there, and your life is here. You believe that God, the source of energy, is there, and you are here, and He/She may come into your life or She/He may not. No, no – that source of eternal energy is here, in you, NOW.”

“Close your eyes and focus on a place deep inside where you feel safe and comfortable. Ask yourself what you’d like to be doing right now in your life. Ask why you’re not pursuing that dream. What are you afraid of? Ask yourself the question I just posed you: what you would do if you only had one year to live? What would you change? Holding the answers in the stillness of your heart, make the commitment to alter your life so that you may manifest your dreams. Make the commitment to always listen and hear your own truth. Make the commitment to let the universe guide you toward your heart’s desire. Just making these commitments will change your life. By doing so you are telling yourself and the universe, “I am worthy of having what I desire and I am going to do what it takes to fulfill my desire.”
