BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 by Paul Ferrini in THE SILENCE OF THE HEART

“It is spiritual pride to think that you are any further on the journey than anyone else. Even if this were true, it would not serve you to know it or claim it. What serves you is compassion for self, compassion for others. What serves you is knowing that each person has the lesson that is perfect for him and, if he learns it, there is no telling how far he will advance.

Don’t think you have the capacity to make a correct determination of the spiritual progress of any individual, including yourself. You don’t. You don’t know. One who seems to be far behind can move ahead in a flash. And one who seems ahead can be seriously disabled. The whole idea of ahead and behind is meaningless, since you don’t know where the starting line is or the finish line…You can look at others and think you understand, but you will just be kidding yourself. You have no idea what anyone else’s life is about. Nor is it really any of your business to know.”

Paul Ferrini, in “The Silence of the Heart”

PONDER on THIS for Monday, July 16th, 2007 by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer in YOUR SACRED SELF

“Make an inner commitment to establish a new relationship with truth. The way to make this happen is to catch yourself when you are exaggerating or deceiving anyone, including yourself. Then silently tell yourself that you were about to puff yourself up by overstating the truth. Decide to simply relate exactly what happened—no more, no less—and see how that feels.

You will discover as you catch yourself immediately before the lie, that you are consulting your higher self, which flourishes in truth instead of giving in to ego demands to be false. You will enjoy a deeper, richer experience of life that feels refreshing compared with the phony presentation of yourself seeking approval.”

PONDER on THIS for Friday, July 13th, 2007 by Stuart Wilde in SILENT POWER

“What is normally considered to be power is not real power at all. Chasing money, glamour, sex; wanting control over others—political and military power—are all manifestations of the ego. They are often glorified forms of showing off; they dwell in the currency of the ego, and they often appeal only to other egos, so they are subject to people’s whims. A person can be rich and successful and still be very weak. Money doesn’t give you real strength; it just keeps you comfortable while you experience your dysfunction.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, July 12th, 2007 by Neale Donald Walsch in FRIENDSHIP WITH GOD

Neale Donald Walsch: “This is another place for me to mention my favorite prayer; the most powerful prayer I ever heard. Thank you God, for helping me to understand that this problem has already been solved for me.

God: Yes, that is a powerful prayer. The next time you are confronted with a condition or circumstance you judge to be problematical, express your immediate gratitude not only for the solution, but for the problem itself. By so doing, you instantly change your perspective on it, and your attitude about it.

Next, bless it…Give it your best energies and your highest thought. In this, you make it your friend, and not your enemy; that which supports you, rather than that which opposes you. Then, accept it, and resist not evil. For what you resist, persists. Only what you accept can you change. Now, envelop it with love. Whatever you are experiencing, you can literally love any undesired experience away. In a sense, you can “love it to death”.

Finally, be joyful, for the exact and perfect outcome is at hand. Nothing can take your joy away from you, for joy is Who You Are, and who you will always be. So, in the face of every problem, do a joyful thing.”

God, as spoken to Neale Donald Walsch, in “Friendship with God”

PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, July 11th, 2007 by Thich Nhat Hanh in PEACE IS EVERY STEP

“In Buddhism the word “suchness” is used to mean “the essence of particular characteristics of a thing or a person, its true nature.” If we want to live in peace and happiness with a person, we have to see the suchness of that person. Once we see it, we understand him or her, and there will be no trouble. We can live peacefully and happily together.

When we bring natural gas into our homes for heating and cooking, we know the suchness of gas. We know that gas is dangerous—it can kill us if we are not mindful. But we also know that we need the gas in order to cook, so we do not hesitate to bring it into our homes. The same is true of electricity…A person is the same. If we do not know enough about the suchness of that person, we may get ourselves into trouble. But if we know, then we can enjoy each other very much and benefit a lot from one another. The key is knowing a person’s suchness. We do not expect a person always to be a flower. We have to understand his or her garbage as well.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, July 10th, 2007 by Stuart Wilde in AFFIRMATIONS

“The world around you is out of balance, and it’s “Tick-tock” will tend to pull you down. As you learn to detach, things will cease to affect you. You will also find it helpful to reduce the amount of absolute contact you have with the world. Avoid crowds. Keep your special view of the world unto yourself. Your destiny is separate because you are one of those rare people who has the mastery of his or her life.

I feel it is important to be informed about what is going on in the world, but be careful not to be pulled in emotionally. Stay away from world “causes”; they are ego traps. If you want to love the world, save it and feed it, that’s great. But first, love and feed yourself. Then, love, feed, and support those close to you. If you have spare time, you can march with your banner. But do not crusade in lieu of becoming powerful. You can help others when they ask for it, but not before.”

PONDER on THIS for Monday, July 9th, 2007 by Alan Cohen in WHY YOUR LIFE SUCKS, AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT

“Looking good is important. I respect people who can make an attractive appearance and I try to look as nice as I can. Certainly you will go a lot farther in the world if you create a positive presentation. The problem comes when looking good becomes so important that you stop feeling good. A strong question to ask yourself when striving to look good is, “Am I doing this by my own choice, with a sense of joy, or am I motivated by fear or pressure? Am I proceeding from an internal “would,” or an external “should?” Who is running my life anyway? Can I look myself in the mirror and like not just what I see, but who I see?”

PONDER on THIS for Saturday, July 7th, 2007 by Todd Rundgren in GOD SAID

“Nearly everyone I know claims to have heard your voice
And every time they do, I know I should rejoice
Because one day you’ll break your silence
And speak just to me
But I feel like time’s running out
And my heart, my heart is filling with doubt
And God said,

I don’t dwell upon you, I dwell on something else
And I am not really here, so get over yourself

Ive tried to follow every rule they said you handed down
And spread the sacred testimony all around
And still the others seem to have your ear, but never will I
Have I displeased you some how?
I can’t help, can’t help feeling left out
And God said,

There’s no anger in me, you must mean someone else
Cause it’s not me that you see, you’re looking at yourself
And I won’t give you a prize instead of someone else
Cause I don’t play favorites, so get over yourself

Is it my fear, is it my pride, it is my vanity?
Should your name just be denied to save my sanity?
What is the price I need to pay to have
What others seem to grasp so easily?
Pity your servant, your slave
Who’ll kiss your feet to be saved
Save me, Save me…
And God said,

You are not serving me, you’re serving something else
Cause I don’t need to be pleased, just get over yourself
You can’t suck up, up to me, I know you all too well
But I don’t dwell upon you, so get over yourself
Cause you’re not praying to me, you’re praying to yourself
And you’re not worshipping me, you’re worshipping yourself
And you will kill in my name, and heaven knows what else
When you can’t prove I exist, so get over yourself.”

PONDER on THIS for Friday, July 6th, 2007 by Wayne W. Dyer in THERE’S A SPIRITUAL SOLUTION TO EVERY PROBLEM

“When you find yourself thinking a thought that focuses on what you don’t want, no matter how insignificant it might be, remind yourself that you will ultimately act upon that thought and it will materialize into your life. Stop yourself right there, and silently ask yourself, “What do I want?” That is, instead of thinking that your arthritis is going to get worse, which is precisely what you don’t want, change the thought into an intention. “This arthritis is going to disappear from my life completely.”

Eventually, slowly, but surely, you will begin to act upon this new intention, which is a faster energy, and this new intention will become your reality. You will do whatever you have to do to avoid suffering with your arthritis. You will not complain about it, because you are no longer thinking of it as a problem, so you can’t complain. And miracle of miracles, your body, which is a system of energy, will react to your thoughts as well. As has been said many times, ‘Your biography becomes your biology’.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, July 5th, 2007 by Fr. Anthony DeMello S.J., in AWARENESS

“The heart in love remains soft and sensitive. But when you’re hell-bent on getting this or the other thing, you become ruthless, hard, and insensitive. How can you love people when you need people? You can only use them. If I need you to be happy, I’ve got to use you, I’ve got to manipulate you, I’ve got to find ways and means of winning you. I cannot let you be free.

I can only love people when I have emptied my life of people. When I die to the need for people, then I’m right in the desert. In the beginning it feels awful, it feels lonely, but if you cant take it for a while, you’ll suddenly discover that it isn’t lonely at all. It is solitude, it is aloneness, and the desert begins to flower. Then at last you’ll know what love is, what God is, what reality is.”

PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 by Debbie Ford in THE DARK SIDE OF THE LIGHT CHASERS

“The world mirrors yourself back to you. If you love, nourish, and appreciate yourself internally it will show up in your external life. If you want more love, give more love to yourself. If you want acceptance, accept yourself. I promise that if you love and respect yourself from the deepest place of your being, you will call forth that same level of love and respect from the universe. If you think you are doing this and your external world does not look like you think it should, I ask you to look inside one more time. Uncover the lie. Uncover what you are not allowing yourself to have, what you most desire.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 by Alan Cohen in DARE TO BE YOURSELF

“Your problems cannot be solved at the same level of consciousness at which you perceive them. The answer is always on a higher level than the problem. That is why the problem exists in the first place—to draw you to a higher awareness. If you approach the difficulty from the same level at which you have been struggling, you will find yourself going in circles. If you are in such a dilemma, you must stop and ask, “What is the highest way of looking at this? What will love show me that fear has disallowed? What is the blessing in this?” Your answer will follow on the trail of one of these questions.

Problems are not punishments; they are invitations to a higher way of thinking…The solution to life’s challenges is spiritual, not material. Remember that we are spiritual beings. Our purpose here is to identify with our true nature. Everything in the physical world exists in the service of this noble quest.”

PONDER on THIS for Monday, July 2nd, 2007 by Shakti Gawain in LIVING IN THE LIGHT

“The traditional macho man has a helpless, hysterical female voice inside of him desperately trying to be heard. He will tend to attract women who have a low self-image and are clingy and needy, or who express their power indirectly through manipulation—little girl ‘cuteness,’ sexual seductiveness, “cattiness,” or dishonesty. These women reflect his lack of trust and respect for his inner female by not trusting and respecting themselves. By opening to and trusting his own feminine nature, he’ll find within himself the nurturing, support, and connection he’s been lacking. The women in his life will mirror this shift by becoming stronger, more independent, more direct and honest, and more genuinely loving and nurturing.”

PONDER on THIS for Friday, June 29th, 2007 by Caroline Myss in WHY PEOPLE DON’T HEAL AND HOW THEY CAN

“Even though change is constant and inevitable, we prefer to turn our attention—and a great deal of our attention—to preventing changes from happening in our lives. Suggesting to people that they initiate change and call upon the winds to pull their ship from its safe harbor into the moving seas is akin to asking them to sit on hot coals for the afternoon. Yet the truth is that healing and change are one and the same thing. They are composed of the same energy, and we cannot seek to heal an illness without first looking into what behavioral patterns and attitudes need to be altered in our life. Once those characteristics are identified, we have to do something about those patterns. This requires taking action, and action brings about change.”

“There is a real danger in strongly identifying yourself with your work or your job, for when the time comes that you no longer do that work, then your identity is effectively lost as well. Put another way, if what you do is who you are, then when you do it no longer, you will be nobody! Regardless, today many people tend to be very attached to the status that their employment supposedly provides them…

While enjoying and being fulfilled by one’s work is certainly important, it is quite another thing to become so identified with that work that one actually believes that their value as a person is based upon it. Whatever you do for a living is just one of several roles that you play in life (e.g., business-person, husband, wife, daughter, son, friend, etc.), and since your work can quickly change, it really has little to do with who you really are.”
