“Most everyone has seen the news media relate stories about people affected by violent crime who decide to visit a prison to forgive the person(s) responsible. These individuals are often portrayed as possessing almost a saint-like quality. The segments also tend to imply that what these folks did was well beyond what the average person could do. Yet as this passage from Dr. Joseph Murphy illustrates, every single one of us has the innate potential to behave in the exact same way, for the simple reason that forgiveness is as much a fundamental instinct for us as it is for the life force itself:

“Life forgives you when you cut your finger. The subconscious intelligence within you sets about immediately to repair it. New cells build bridges over the cut…Life holds no grudges against you, and it is always forgiving you.”

Since all of us are individualized aspects of that life force, we do indeed share its instinctive nature to forgive; it is simply a matter of learning to allow that higher aspect of ourselves to shine through the darkness caused by our conditioning. Granted, it can take a lot of practice on our part to learn to allow that natural instinct to express itself, but the potential payoffs (i.e., greater peace of mind, improved relationships, better health) are well worth the effort.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, February 28th, 2023 by R. P. Sharpe in JOY POTENTIAL

“Every day, people awaken to what brings them joy and many don’t even see it coming. Sometimes it is a tragic event that shakes someone to the core. They then recognize the importance and fleeting nature of life – and with that comes a deep appreciation of living life to its fullest. Some people slowly come to realize what brings them joy. There are even some people who discover what they want by doing everything they do not want, a process of elimination of sorts. Then sadly there are those who choose not to look at joy at all and go to the grave missing the opportunity of life.

I know my view may seem pie in the sky, but it isn’t. From where I sit, I see it happen all the time. The difference between those that have joy and those that don’t, is belief in the possibility. Joy is celebrating the daily examples of happiness such as the innocent remarks of a child, or the kindness of a friend or stranger.”

“Optimism does not mean that you feel happy every minute of the day. It doesn’t mean that you’re always upbeat and in a good mood. You are not even required to keep your fingers crossed so that all your problems will disappear and your glassy-eyed, smiley-faced joy will return. That’s not it, and it’s a good thing because most of us wouldn’t be able to buy in to this rosy-cheeked cheerfulness.

But optimism is doable. It is real and it can be a difference-maker in your life if you stay
grounded and realistic. Grounded optimism is about attitude and action and like so many of the other strategies that manage the flow of negative emotion, it helps you feel better. It helps people bounce back from adversity and it is one component of resilience. Doctors, like positive psychology guru Martin Seligman, rank optimism right up there in line next to exercise and good nutrition when it comes to good-health building behaviors.”

“The concept of soul mates originated in the Biblical account of creation of the first people. According to the Biblical story, God indicated to Adam that in as much as it wouldn’t be good for him to be lonely, he could use a “help, as if an opposite to him.” Many Bibles mis-translate this entire phrase as “soul mate.” The original is quite intriguing: These two people would be able to help one another by being opposites. In that way, one would bolster the other person’s weaknesses. Together, they would get the job done that they were put here to do. They would be the perfect team.”

“Universal Law is impartial and unemotional. It has no way of knowing what you want, nor does it discriminate between your hopes and aspirations, likes and dislikes – it is pure energy. It accepts whatever thoughts, feelings, and actions you project and reflects them back to you unemotionally in the form of events that you experience day-to-day.

In much the same was as electricity illuminates both a brothel and the vicar’s tea party, the Universal Law does not differentiate between types of energy in your life. It will give you anything you believe in – no more and no less. Therefore the key to understanding miracles is to look at the beliefs you express as thoughts and feelings.”

“…The desire to know what will occur, and the urge to make detailed plans to ensure one’s own security down the road, are both related to the ego’s need for safety as a result of its deeply held fear of death. You can deny the truth in this, arguing that it is only prudent that a person plan for the future. However, if you are able to look deep within yourself, you will realize that it is indeed an accurate observation concerning human nature.

To varying degrees, every single one of us is apprehensive about the future (i.e., the unknown), and so we burn amazing amounts of energy trying to get a hold on something that quite simply is impossible to grasp. According to Fr. Anthony DeMello:

“So why are you anxious? Can you, for all your anxieties, add a single moment to your life? Why bother about tomorrow? Is there a life after death? Why bother about tomorrow? Get into today. Someone once said, “Life is what happens to us while we’re busy making other plans.” That’s pathetic.”

These certainly are powerful words, and yet it is really tough to challenge DeMello’s observations. Think about it carefully for a moment or two. What possible benefit can be derived from feeling anxious about the future? The answer is none, unless of course you happen to enjoy experiencing the feeling of anxiety. Moreover, what is the payoff for spending a great deal of time planning one’s life in minute detail? Perhaps all of this preparation helps people to assuage their fear of the future to some extent, but it quite obviously prohibits them from truly enjoying their present moments.

“Every single time you take in a breath and then exhale, you are engaged in a process of giving and receiving that is vital to the material and spiritual world. With each inhalation you take in the oxygen and nitrogen that you must have in order to exist, and with each exhalation
you send back the carbon dioxide that supplies the entire plant world. The cycle of generous giving and receiving is exactly the same as the very act of breathing.

Look around you and notice how everything in our universe is a result of giving and receiving. The entire food chain represents a giving of life and taking of life, and then a giving back in an endless cycle of material manifestation. The worm that the bird eats, and the droppings from the bird, and the eating of the bird, and the recycling of the meat of the bird, and on and on it goes.

There is no place for any of it to go other than here in this universe. It does not leave and then reenter. It is all simply a process of giving and receiving different forms of energy.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, February 20th, 2022 by Richard & Mary Alice Jafolla in THE QUEST

“There is nothing, n-o-t-h-i-n-g, that did not begin as a thought. The Universe was brought forth from an idea in God-Mind. You and everything else in this Universe began as an idea. All that is and all that has been and all that will ever be, began or will begin with a thought.

Thoughts are the power of the world. They are the very blueprint for our lives. And just as God brought forth the world with a thought, we bring forth our world with our thoughts. God creates people, and people create their conditions. There is a cooperation between God and each of us as we create our world. But whereas in God-Mind all ideas are for our good, we take these ideas from God-Mind and filter them through our minds to create our world. That can be a marvelous thing, except when our minds are choked with perceived limitations and false beliefs.

It is from our thoughts that we systematically draw the people, places, and circumstances into our lives that eventually become our reality. Each thought is a living “brick” that, piled on one another, constructs our future. True, it is action which shapes our material world, but actions are nothing more than three-dimensional thoughts. It is through our thoughts that we give life to the world. To us have been given the power to create and destroy.”

“…The current paradigm of allopathic medicine doesn’t encourage us to trust or utilize our own innate wisdom and healing potential. Instead it fosters a sense of dependency, disempowerment, and fear of illness. In new mind-body-spirit healing perspectives, illness is not the enemy of health, but an integral component of a powerful organic system, which has evolved throughout hundreds of thousands of years. The primary purpose of illness is to alert us that we are, on some level, distressed and out of balance. To heal and regain our natural state of wholeness — the alignment of mind, body, and spirit — we need to identify and address the deeper root causes of this stress and imbalance. Even more important, we must learn how to take advantage of our innate healing powers.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, February 16th, 2023 by Shakti Gawain in LIVING IN THE LIGHT

“When we consistently suppress and distrust our intuitive knowingness, looking instead for authority, validation, and approval from others, we give our personal power away. This leads to feelings of helplessness, emptiness, a sense of being a victim; eventually to anger and rage, and, if these feelings are also suppressed, to depression and deadness. We may overcompensate for our feelings of powerlessness by attempting to control and manipulate other people and our environment. Or we may eventually burst forth with uncontrolled rage. None of these are very
positive alternatives.

The true solution is to re-educate ourselves to listen to and trust the inner truths that come to us through our intuitive feelings. We must learn to act on them, even though it may feel risky and frightening at first, because we are no longer playing it safe, doing what we “should” do, pleasing others, following rules, or deferring to outside authority. To live this way is
to risk losing everything that we have held onto for reasons of external (false) security, but we will gain integrity, wholeness, true power, creativity, and the REAL security of knowing that we are in alignment with the power of the Universe.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, February 15th, 2022 by Jeff Maziarek in SPIRITUALITY SIMPLIFIED

“During an average month in the United States, we are barraged with literally thousands of messages originating from a variety of sources, the majority of which are designed to get us to buy either a product or an idea. As a result of this media-driven culture, we have millions of people taking on significant amounts of debt just so they can “own” and become attached to and/or burdened by more and more stuff…

I used to participate in a bit of that behavior myself, until one day when I heard Dr. Wayne Dyer talk about the disease called more. This serious affliction results from having a thought like, “I know I’ll be happier or feel more fulfilled if I just have a new home, or car, or stereo, etc.” The reality is that as long as we believe that we need something outside of ourselves to bring us happiness, we will constantly have to buy more things, and that, my friend, is an endless trap…

This does not mean that you need to stop being a consumer of anything other than essential items…it is important for you to keep money circulating in your life. Rather, what you need to do is come to the understanding that whatever you buy is meant to serve you in some way, and that at the most fundamental level you never really own anything in the first place – you just use it. This is because even if you hold the title to something, the fact that you will not live forever means that you never truly own it, since at the moment of your death it will be passed on to someone else anyway.

This is not to suggest that you shouldn’t appreciate or take care of the various goods that you purchase, for it is both sensible and practical that you do. What is important however is to not get so focused on protecting and caring for your possessions that the stuff itself begins to control you.”

“Shutting out your internal pain is not right, regardless of what social conditioning teaches you. Instead, open up to your pain. Invite it in and listen to it, for a voice heard and understood will not then keep knocking on your door.

This is the greatest misunderstanding our culture has adopted. We should not hide away our collective pain. Being open to our feelings is where our salvation will be found. Do not try to mask your painful feelings, for all emotions are your messengers. They are bringing you the vital signposts needed on your personal journey.

What you have done in the past is not uncommon. You have always glossed over your negative emotions, plastering them over with positive thinking. Another way you’ve coped with it has been to keep yourself busy. But I tell you this: You should not run away and disregard your sadness or negative emotions, for they carry the antidote that you need to help move you to another level of understanding. And they carry the key that will open the door to a more enlightened way of living.”

“Even the good among us think about the merits of revenge. Anthropologists say it’s a universal trait to want to go after those who came after you. In other cultures, revenge worked to deter those who might do future harm. In intimate relationships, it doesn’t work so well.

Forgiveness, another evolutionary quality, is a better way to go. Research out of Stanford University indicates that those who cannot forgive, experience greater stress and health problems including heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and lower immune response. Hanging onto the stress of what happened can actually make you sick. Forgiveness is the antidote.”

“Of course, anger is a normal human emotion; however, the key is to express the anger and work on letting it go as soon as possible. To allow anger to linger within your being is a dangerous matter. Anger hinders you from expressing your spirit and distorts your judgment profusely. Anger tears away at your ability and capacity to think clearly and feel happiness. Anger and resentment will eliminate peace and contentment from your life.

Holding on to anger is a definite guarantee to an extremely low quality of life including decreased physical health, depression, frustration, rage, helplessness, and countless other negative energies that poison your soul. There is nothing productive or effective about holding on to anger and harboring resentments for any significant period of time. Each day you must cleanse yourself of the debris of anger and other toxins that threaten to take away your quality of living.”

“People’s feelings would not annoy you unless you had similar feelings, attitudes or behaviors – however minor – yourself…Imagine that other people in your life are playing out roles to mirror back to you certain parts of yourself. When they act in ways you don’t like, they are mirroring back to you a part of yourself that you haven’t yet learned to love.

As you learn to love and find the beauty in others, you will become transparent to their energies. You will also be sending love to the part of yourself that has similar feelings. As you learn to love every part of yourself, you will raise your vibration and no longer attract those kinds of people into your life.”
