“All of us have heard the expression, “You are what you eat.” If a thing is true, there is a way in which it is true. You are what you eat psychologically and spiritually. Thoughts of God, thoughts of love, kindness, optimism, joy, and good will, are the foods of health, joy happiness, and success; if you mentally absorb and digest a bountiful supply of these foods, you will attract and experience all these things in your life.

If you are hateful, envious, jealous, and full of hostility, the physical food you eat may well be transformed into various diseases of a psychosomatic nature. Contrariwise, if you are full of good will and eat the food on the table with joy and thanksgiving, it will transmuted into beauty, vitality, wholesomeness and strength. The bread or meat which you eat, become your flesh and blood after a few hours. This is essentially the meaning of “you are what you eat.”

“Society places different values on talents. A person who is talented in business or in the
professions is accorded a higher status than one whose talent is in sewing, cooking, repairing appliances, or hanging wallpaper. Yet, each talent is truly equal in value to every other talent.

It is important that we support ourselves and others in this thought. As our perception of the value of our talent improves, so will the actual value, to us and to others. The person who sews, knits or cooks with great skill, is entitled to the same acknowledgment as the successful president of a major corporation. Each is entitled to be treated as a superstar. However, others will always treat us in the ways we wish to be treated. Until we view what we do as important and valuable, no one else will.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, February 16th, 2022 by Deepak Chopra in AGELESS BODY, TIMELESS MIND

“Growing old happens in the mind; it is therefore uniquely variable in humans. After twenty years, any dog is an old dog; after three, any mouse is an old mouse, after one hundred, any blue whale is a very old blue whale. In all these creatures, biological age is the only age that counts, yet everyone knows people who are young at 80 and others who seem old at 25.

The great Renaissance man Sir Francis Bacon held a caustic opinion of old people who “object too much, consult too long, adventure too little, and repent too soon.” This is the kind of old age everyone wants to avoid. Fortunately, nothing in our physical makeup forces it upon us. If you don’t want to grow old, YOU CAN CHOOSE NOT TO.”

“Persistence is guts. Stick-to-itiveness. Determination. The willingness to repeat and repeat and repeat until you’ve achieved the desired effect. Persistence says: Don’t give up!

In this sense, persistence is visionary. Expectant. A sacred journey resplendent with hope. When you persist you know, on a visceral level, that you are enacting your part in the invisible contract between you and the cosmos. Instead of feeling powerless, you feel alive. Instead of feeling hopeless, you have a sense that you’re on the path to somewhere. Instead of feeling like a victim, you feel like a person of action; in your deep self you know that this choice for action will one day be rewarded with a response.”

“According to the Divine law of reciprocity, the circumstances and experiences of our life are the direct results of the causes we ourselves have set in motion by the givingness of our own hands and mind. Cause and effect rule supreme. They need no police or military to enforce compliance, yet they can never be evaded or transcended.

Work wisely with this self-operative principle and build yourself a bright future – become a master of your affairs. And if things are now less than perfect, look upon them as an opportunity for growth. From the perspective of your immortal self, you’ve created this difficult scenario in order to make amends for past errors and to sow good seeds for the future. It’s also a means to strengthen your character and test your development.”

“Life is filled with errors, minor mistakes, failed attempts at goals, and numerous events that we label as “negative.” If we focus constantly on these areas of our life and do not appreciate them as learning experiences and opportunities for growth, we will not move toward success. The only thing we can actually do with failure is to utilize it as a resource for continued determination and persistence. When things appear not to be going your way, continue to visualize success and think positively because this energy will eventually materialize in reality. Do not allow negative and poisonous energy to enter your life when it casually knocks. Negativity is an unwanted and destructive visitor.”

“Gratitude changes the way we view life and ourselves. Difficult situations that were once intolerable and seemingly unchangeable, transform. The moment we feel gratitude, the situation begins to lighten, and then we can see the opportunities to create change. We feel better about ourselves and our ability to positively affect our environment and our world. Depression lifts, conflict turns to harmony, and stress releases to peace. When gratitude becomes a way of life, success, happiness, and health become the norm.”

“So, how do you really know when you’re on the right track? If you don’t feel relaxed and happy each day, seek the source of your angst. Whatever the situation, you and your friends as well as your work associates resonate at similar frequencies. In other words, you are known by the company you keep, just by your vibrations.

You are part of the human bar code. Bar codes are frequencies. Each product that’s packaged for sale has a bar code recognizable by scanners. Debit and credit cards work the same way. You, too, received a unique bar code at birth. Oh, sure, it could be your birth certificate with your footprint as evidence – but more than that, it is the energetic field surrounding your cellular body, the whole of you, all of the 50 to 70 trillion cells in your body. They are your family. The go with you everywhere. They are aware of your behavior, your bad habits and good traits, and take account of how you sabotage yourself by having at least one drink for the road. Nothing goes unnoticed.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 by Joan Borysenko, Ph.D. in THE WAYS OF THE MYSTIC: SEVEN PATHS TO GOD

“Forgiveness is one of the least understood of all spiritual practices. It has nothing to do with conditioning poor behavior in ourselves and others. Rather, it calls us to responsibility. In forgiving ourselves, we make the journey from guilt for what we have done (or not done) to celebration of what we have become.

This transformation of heart comes about through reflecting on the results of our mistakes, understanding how ignorance or woundedness created those actions, and doing the necessary healing so that we will do better next time. Error calls us to repentance, which literally means to think again. It is the crucible in which the soul is forged and the psyche healed. Mistakes, in fact, are sacred because of the powerful potential for growth they contain.”

“The talents each of us have are literally God given, and they are given to be ex¬pressed. Failure to express them results in great discomfort in our physical bodies. The talents want out. Holding them in requires effort and is a major way we resist the natural order of the Universe. We hold them in at our peril and at great cost to our spiritual well-being. Just because our society often discourages the free expression of our individual talents does not mean that they have no value to us or even to society. In fact, the opposite is true.

The Universe, in its infinite wisdom, does not create talents without the corresponding need in others to experience the expression of these talents. If a musician has the inspiration to express in a totally new musical form, there are always people who will enjoy hearing music presented in that way. In truth, each of us is a Beethoven, DaVinci or DiMaggio in the area of our talent. We are each created to be a superstar. It is for each of us to locate the talent and then express it. As we express it, we learn its value in creating a life of pleasure, abundance and joy.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, February 4th, 2022 by John St. Augustine in LIVING AN UNCOMMON LIFE

“Most of us go through life afraid – and with good reason. We are shown images every single day that validate our suspicion that the world is a place to be feared!…We have programmed ourselves into a constant state of fear, which contributes very little to living an uncommon life. Faith is the only antidote I know of for “fear overdose.” Faith has many definitions: belief in a force greater than oneself, fidelity to one’s promises, and a strong belief or conviction.

I am partial to St. Augustine’s view of faith: to believe what you do not see. The reward of this faith is to see what you believe. In order to fear something, you have to believe in it. The same goes for faith. Essentially, you bring forth that on which you focus. If what we focus on expands, then it is possible that fear is nothing more than the opportunity to display faith. They are two sides of the same coin.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, February 3rd, 2022 by Neale Donald Walsch in CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD BOOK 1

“Some of your religions have built up whole theologies around the misconception that God would – or could – create anything imperfect. And that is what it is, literally: a misconception. For anything I conceive – all that to which I give life – is is perfect; a perfect reflection of perfection itself, made in the image and likeness of Me.

Yet, in order to justify the idea of a punitive God, your religions needed to create something for me to be angry about. So that even those people who lead exemplary lives somehow need to be saved. If they don’t need to be saved from themselves, then they need to be saved from their own built-in imperfection (* i.e., original sin). So (these religions say) you’d better do something about all of this – and fast – or you’ll go straight to hell. This, in the end, may do nothing to mollify a weird, vindictive, angry God, but it does give life to weird, vindictive, angry religions.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, February 2nd, 2022 by Walter E. Jacobson M.D. in FORGIVE TO WIN

“We are oftentimes reluctant to forgive others because we think that, by doing so, we are making the statement that: (1) We’re okay with what they did, (2) We’re letting them off the hook and not expecting them to be accountable for their actions, (3) We’re weak or foolish and not expecting them to be accountable for their actions, (3) We’re weak or foolish, or (4) We’re inviting further abuse and victimization.

None of these are true. They are all fear thoughts. They are fabrications of our ego mind, designed to sabotage our efforts by encouraging us to withhold forgiveness. The truth is that we perceive withholding forgiveness as a way or us to punish people for hurting us, but…what we’re really doing is punishing ourselves in the process. The truth is that forgiveness is strength, not weakness. Forgiveness doesn’t say to people that we are doormats or suckers, or that it’s okay to victimize and abuse us again.

The truth is forgiveness doesn’t mean we condone their actions or are suggesting they not be held accountable. The truth is that forgiveness doesn’t mean that we have to be friends with the person we’re forgiving or that we have to tolerate their presence or behavior. Forgiveness simply means that we’re letting go of our resentments, our judgments, and our need to make others feel guilty for our own peace of mind and for our own ultimate success.”

“Another painful burden that comes with increased consciousness and competence is the loneliness of transcending traditional culture. Throughout the ages, only a few among millions – a Socrates, Jesus – have have obviously risen above the rigid culture and simplistic thinking of their times. Now as a result of mass communications, psychotherapy, and grace, I would estimate that there are hundreds of thousands of adults in our country who are on this cutting edge.

These individuals think well enough to challenge conventional and irrational thinking. They question blind national and tribal loyalties – and the limitations imposed by their culture – in order to grow. They no longer believe everything they read in the newspapers. They seek truth and challenge the illusions about “normalcy” as promoted by society and the mass media. They show the courage to no longer be sucked into the simplistic thinking around them. They have redefined “family” to include not only blood relatives but the meaningful relations they establish with others who share common interests and a common – and growth oriented – approach to life.”

“When you feel contemptuous, or even a twinge of jealousy, toward the accomplishments or life-styles of others, you are harboring negativity, where love must reside. When you have only love within you, because that is how you choose to regard life, that is all you will have to give away. Thus, you can test yourself by checking how you feel toward people who have acquired a dimension of prosperity that is still eluding you. You cannot attract prosperity to yourself if you are filled with rancor, judgment, anger, jealousy, hatred, fear, tension or the like. This kind of negative inner mind-set keeps you from being on purpose. You cannot be fulfilled and envious at the same time.”
