BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, December 21st, 2015 by Fr. Anthony DeMello in AWARENESS

“Craving distorts and destroys perception. Fears and desires haunt us. Samuel Johnson said, “The knowledge that he is to swing from a scaffold within a week wonderfully concentrates a man’s mind.” You blot out everything else and concentrate only on the fear, or desire, or craving. In many ways we were drugged when we were young. We were brought up to need people. For what? For acceptance, for approval, appreciation, applause – for what they called success. Those are words that do not correspond to reality.

They are conventions, things that are invented, but we don’t realize that they don’t correspond to reality. What is success? It is what one group decided is a good thing. Another group will decide the same thing is bad. What is good in Washington might be considered bad in a Carthusian monastery. Success in a political circle might be considered failure in some other circles. These are conventions. But we treat them like realities, don’t we?”

Fr. Anthony DeMello, S.J., in “Awareness”

“As you replace fear and doubt as your guides with loving and trusting awareness, you will find how much life has been providing you with your every need. Many times, you may have missed it because you were dwelling on something other than what you truly needed at that moment. And Life gives, moment-by-moment, step-by-step.

When you were afraid that you didn’t have enough money, life may have been showering you with opportunities for learning so that you could eventually earn a better income, or sending you people to help you with your difficulties. Life always gives what you need most now, but it’s always up to YOU to heed its call and accept it.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, December 17th, 2015 by Stuart Wilde in THE LITTLE MONEY BIBLE

“There are more than five billion people on this planet, and every day of the week each one needs, say, a hundred different things. There are trillions of demands that need satisfying. So, rather than looking at supply and demand from a position of insecurity and lack, you can see it from the other side of the coin. There’s a perpetual oversupply of demand, and if you can’t give people one thing imbued with an energy that shines like crazy, you can sure as hell find something else they’ll want. When you are selling energy, you are selling Light, so your possibilities are infinite. By concentrating on what people need, you become abundant.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 by Eckhart Tolle in THE POWER OF NOW

“On the level of form, there is birth and death, creation and destruction, growth and dissolution, of seemingly separate forms. This is reflected everywhere: in the life cycle of a star or a planet, a physical body, a tree, a flower; in the rise and fall of nations, political systems, civilizations; and in the inevitable cycles of gain and loss in the life of an individual.

There are cycles of success, when things come to you and thrive, and cycles of failure, when they wither or disintegrate and you have to let them go in order to make room for new things to arise, or for transformation to happen. If you cling and resist at that point, it means you are refusing to go with the flow of life, and you WILL suffer.”

“There is nothing you need to do to improve what you really are. The only thing left for all of us to do is to create a beautiful story and enjoy a better life. How do you create a beautiful story? By being authentic. When the main character is authentic, it is easy to write your story with integrity, with common sense, with love.

Life is the greatest gift that we receive, and the art of living is the greatest art. How do you master the art of living? Practice makes perfect. It’s not about learning; it’s about taking action and practicing your art. As an artist, if you practice love, and you keep practicing and practicing, the moment comes when everything you do is an expression of your love. How will you know when you have mastered love? When the story you tell is an ongoing romance.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, December 14th, 2015 by Dr. Stephen Russell in BAREFOOT DOCTOR’S GUIDE TO THE TAO

“When you make an agreement stick to it. Don’t use your words idly. Avoid making any agreements, contracts, or commitments, formal or otherwise, with anyone that you don’t feel sure about being able to honor. This applies as much to an informal arrangement to meet your friend at eight as it does to signing a marriage contract. It’s always OK to say you don’t know, until you’re sure one way or the other or are forced to take a position, in which case you’ll know quick enough.

Obviously you are always free to change your mind, but when you do, you must be sure to inform everyone involved, so that the situation can be fairly renegotiated, and also be willing to accept full responsibility for the consequences. Every time you goof out on an agreement, however insignificant it seems at the time, you’re weakening your link with the universal machinery, which causes obstructions in the flow of energy/chi between you and the world, resulting in poor manifesting ability.”

“Relationships are lessons in tangible form that we need for our personal growth. If we are holding any unconsciousness about a character trait, or some prejudice or judgment about any kind of action, someone who does the thing we don’t like will be drawn to us so that we may learn to let go and to love.

The quickest way to free yourself of someone who does something that irritates you is to love and accept them with their trait.

The more you fight it, the more prominent it will become. When you let go of your resistance, the person may or may not leave your life, but if you have truly released them it will not matter.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, December 10th, 2015 by Cherie Carter-Scott in IF LIFE IS A GAME, THESE ARE THE RULES

“Many people believe that they will be happy once they arrive at some specific goal they set for themselves. For some the goal may be amassing a million dollars, for others losing those annoying ten-plus pounds, and for still others it is finding a soulmate. It could be getting a better job, driving a nicer car, or pursuing a dream career. Whatever your “there’ is, you may be convinced that once you arrive you will finally find the peace you have always dreamed of. You will finally become fulfilled, happy, generous, loving, and content.

However, more often than now, once you arrive “there” you will still feel dissatisfied, and move your “there” vision to yet another point in the future. By always chasing after “there,” you are never really appreciating what you already have right “here.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, December 9th, 2015 by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer in PULLING YOUR OWN STRINGS

“As you assess past influences on our own life, make sure you’re not hanging onto the belief that anyone else is responsible for what you are feeling or doing, or even failing to do, today. If you catch yourself blaming your parents, grandparents, the hard times, or whatever, for your present troubles, keep this little sentence in your mind:

“If my past is at fault for what I am today, and the past cannot be changed, I am doomed to stay as I am.”

Today is a brand-new experience, and you can decide now to chuck out all the unpleasant things you remember about your past, and make THIS moment a pleasant one.”

PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 by Marianne Williamson in EVERYDAY GRACE

“The frustration of traffic is a good metaphor for the frustration of modern life. We want to get somewhere…But it’s going too slow, and all these other people are in our way! If we wish to remain affected by traffic, or anything else, then that’s our choice. The day is hot, perhaps, and we have no air-conditioner, or the day is cold and we have no heater. We can think, Poor me. The drivers around us are acting nuts. We can think, These people are total jerks. We can think that way if we choose to, but we cannot diminish the power of our thoughts. Every thought of victimization or attack is an attack upon ourselves. When we think them, we are opening a door: enter stress, enter sickness, enter fear.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, December 7th, 2015 by Shakti Gawain in THE PATH OF TRANSFORMATION

“Of course, taking action is a vital part of bringing our consciousness into form and making real change. Direct, powerful, and committed action is extremely important both on a personal and social/political level. Whether or not we commit ourselves to such actions is not so much the issue as where the motivation for that action comes from within us.

The pitfall is this: If we put our primary attention and commitment into external action, we repeat an old pattern, one that is at the root of much of the trouble we’re in today – which is believing that the cause of the problem, as well as the power to correct it, exists primarily in the external world.

If we try to solve our problems only externally, which we often do by trying to fix or change other people or institutions, we give away our power. We project it out there, into the external world instead of owning where it really exists, and where we can actually do something about it – inside us.”

Pay attention to whatever feedback you get from the way things unfold in your external experience. See how things work out when you follow your own inner guidance. If things don’t seem to be working out, it may be because you are not yet fully attuned with your inner guidance. You may be following other feelings instead. The best indication that you are in tune with your inner truth is that you feel more alive as a result. Also, things generally work more easily. Doors open. There’s a sense of following a certain flow of energy.”

“When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don’t blame the lettuce. You look into the reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or our family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like lettuce.

Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and arguments. That is my experience. No blame, no reasoning, no argument, just understanding. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 by Paul Ferrini in THE SILENCE OF THE HEART

“Try this spiritual practice: “What I see is a mirror showing me what I believe. Everything that happens in my life is a reflection of some belief I have about myself.” Try saying this to yourself every time you start to take your life or someone else’s life too seriously Say it when you are in pain and feel you can’t take another step forward. Say it when you are in love and can’t wait another moment for your lover.

Open your eyes as you embrace the experience. Don’t go to sleep. Don’t pretend that you know what something means. Just remember that everything that happens is a reflection of a belief that you have. Just look without judging. Look in simple acceptance. Look in surrender.”

“Sympathy is feeling sorry for others, seeing that what is happening to them is negative or bad. Compassion is seeing that what is happening to them is for their growth, and assisting them in seeing that also. Compassion reframes an experience they may perceive as unfortunate or bad into something that they can understand. Realize that when you feel sympathy for people, you begin to vibrate with them and take their lower energy into yourself. When you come from compassion, you do not bring in their negativity.

Being firm with people may not be easy but it can be a greater gift than being the nice guy all the time. You have experienced friends to whom you give and give, who do not seem to appreciate what you do. If your offers of help are doing no apparent good, it is time to put your energy elsewhere. You may risk not being liked in the short run, but in the long run you will gain from following this higher wisdom.”

PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, December 1st, 2015 by Alan Cohen in WHY YOUR LIFE SUCKS AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT

“The most heinous use of statistics I have seen showed up on a large sign at a metropolitan airport. The sign, sponsored by a cancer organization, blared, “By this time in five years, ____ of ____ you will not be in the picture.” (I have replaced the numbers with blanks so as not to perpetuate the inference. The sign showed photos of 20 faces, with a certain number blacked out to indicate they would be dead of cancer. I felt repulsed by this ad. The sign was programming a belief that would burrow into the subconscious of the hundreds of thousands of people who would view it, and contribute to the continuity of the statistic – in a way, a self-fulfilling prophecy.

You may justifiably argue that a statistic is simply a statement of the way it is; a certain percentage of people do die of cancer, and this is a fact. But facts are always evolving. They are not solid entities at all; they have a life span, disintegrate, and give way to new facts, sometimes quickly. Sir James Jeans noted, “Science should give up on making pronouncements. The river of truth has often turned back on itself.”
