“Any effective spiritual practice must assist you in noticing how frequently you become offended by others, virtually without ceasing. Although you may have labeled this habit as being “sensitive,” there’s actually nothing sensitive about it at all. True sensitivity involves recognizing that your own misguided mental patterns are, most likely, virtually identical to those who offend you. Habitual reaction to others’ comments and actions is, instead, reactionary and in fact is quite insensitive. If you must react, at least call it what it is: resistance extraordinaire.

This is why it is so important to recognize that, despite being in the midst of difficult people and difficult problems, a spiritual ripening can absolutely occur if you elevate effective spiritual practice to a priority within a context of everyday challenges and activities.
