BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, June 10th, 2013 by M. Scott Peck, M.D. in THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED & BEYOND

“Life is difficult because it is a series of problems, and the process of confronting and solving problems is a painful one. Problems, depending on their nature, evoke in us many uncomfortable feelings: frustration, grief, sadness, loneliness, guilt, regret, anger, fear, anxiety, anguish or despair. These feelings are often as painful as any kind of physical suffering. Indeed, it is because of the pain that events or conflicts engender in us that we call them problems.

Yet it is in this whole process of meeting and solving problems that life finds its meaning. Problems call forth our courage and wisdom; indeed, they create our courage and our wisdom. Problems are the cutting edge that distinguishes between success and failure. It is only because of problems that we grow mentally and spiritually.”

PONDER on THIS for Friday, June 7th, 2013 by Rhonda Joy Eagle in DISCOVER YOUR SOUL SONG

“For millennia, music and voice has been a way to move us. It exhilarates us, excites us, saddens us, and mellows us. It has a profound effect on the very way we function from moment to moment. If you think about it, we are actually a conglomeration of several systems that are vibrating at different rates and frequencies that somehow manage to communicate with each other fairly successfully.

This implies that everything around us vibrates in such a way that its atoms and molecules actually cohere to create one form or another. So one could say that our bodies are several systems, such as the nervous system, the vascular system, the respiratory system, and each are each vibrating and communicating is some way. So if this is so, we would hope that the way in which this happens would be harmonious, in harmony, to create a sense of wholeness and well-being as opposed to disharmony, creating a sense of dis-ease.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could find a way to actively create harmony at any given time? To recognize dis-harmony and bring ourselves back into a harmonious state and coherence? Using sound, this is very possible. By tuning into our bodies and senses, we can create a state of balance by simply toning into our systems. Even if you have never sung a single note, you can still literally hum yourself to wellness.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, June 6th, 2013 by Daphne Rose Kingma in THE TEN THINGS TO DO WHEN YOUR LIFE FALLS APART

“Learning to love, loving more, that’s the bottom line of what a crisis is really all about. Through it, we are being asked to expand beyond the inordinate focus on ourselves – our obsession with what we need, want, and desire – to notice what we can share, how we can serve and be of help to one another. In short, we are being asked to enlarge the circle of our love. Of course, it’s not always easy to do this. It may be unfamiliar. But when we do engage, when we see and hear and respond to one another, life starts to seem less scary.

The more you get and give help, the more it seems that you will actually make it through your own unbelievable painful passage. You sense that there really is a new future. Even in the heartbreaking present you realize that you’re not alone. Not only that, but instead of wearing out your biceps holding up a thousand-pound iron defense shield in front of your heart, you can let down your guard, let down your hair, give up your pride, have a good cry, and, in gratitude, receive the love that’s coming for you.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 by Doreen Virtue in GRATITUDE, A WAY OF LIFE BY LOUISE HAY AND FRIENDS

“It’s easy enough to feel gratitude during the obvious moments, like when a friend goes out of her way to help you, or when you receive a gift especially suited to your liking. But what about those other moments – the ones not so obviously calling for gratitude? Is it possible to stay centered in appreciation when we really don’t appreciate what’s going on around us?

So often, our gratitude skips beats like a record with a gash across its center. When situations seem to warrant it, our hearts swell with appreciation. The other moments, though, we forget the eternal powers that are constantly wafting through our lives. We figure, “What’s to be grateful for?” – that is, unless we are open and aware of the delicate and subtle lessons and miracles back-dropped against everyday moments. Because, in truth, there is ALWAYS something for which to be grateful.”

Doreen Virtue, in an essay entitled “Unconditional Gratitude” in “Gratitude, A Way of Life” by Louise Hay and Friends

“Being unattached does not mean being disinterested or removed; rather, it means remaining neutral in your judgments of circumstances and in your desire for a specific outcome. In other words, if your goal is to amass a million dollars, it is natural and right for you to pursue that goal. The key to serenity, however, lies in your ability to hold lightly to the image of yourself reaching that goal. In doing so you will feel peaceful in your situation regardless of the outcome. Unattachment means you are not bound by your expectations of how things should turn out, and that you are willing to let go.”

“If you don’t have enough time to do all the things you need to do, it’s a sign of your lack of control. It’s a manifestation of a lack of good boundaries. You have to set boundaries and get rid of some of the things you’ve chosen to do, or reduce your obligations. You have to pull back and get control by eliminating the less important stuff and staying with the actions that are comfortable and reasonable.

Being a workaholic is a disease of the ego. It often comes from a poor self-image, which requires you to overachieve to win approval. Don’t become a power freak, and don’t become a money freak. Get a life first, and do the other stuff as much as you need or want to – everything in moderation.”

“When you scold yourself, when you berate yourself, when you “beat yourself up,” who do you think you’re treating this way? Almost all of our programming, both negative and positive, was accepted by us by the time we were three years old. Our experiences since then are based upon what we accepted and believed about ourselves and about life at that time. The way we were treated when we were very little is usually the way we treat ourselves now. The person you are scolding is a three year old child within you.

What was done in the past is done, and it is over now. But this is present time, and you now have the opportunity to treat yourself the way you wish to be treated. A frightened child needs comforting, not scolding. Scolding yourself only makes you more frightened, and there is nowhere to turn. When the child within feels unsafe, it creates a lot of trouble. Remember how it felt to be belittled when you were young? It feels the same to the child within.

Be kind to yourself. Begin to love and approve of yourself. That’s what that little child needs in order to express itself at its highest potential.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, May 30th, 2013 by Eckhart Tolle in A NEW EARTH

“An illness can either strengthen or weaken the ego. If you complain, feel self-pity, or resent being ill, your ego becomes stronger. It also becomes stronger if you make the illness part of your conceptual identity: “I am a sufferer of such and such a disease.” Ah, so now we know who you are. Some people, on the other hand, who in normal life have a big ego, suddenly become gentle and kind and much nicer people when they are ill. They may gain insights they may never have ad in their normal life. They may access their inner knowing and contentment and speak words of wisdom. Then, when they get better, energy returns and so does the ego.

When you are ill, your energy is quite low, and the intelligence of the organism make take over and use the remaining energy for the healing of the body, and so there is not enough left for the mind, that is to say, egoic thinking and emotion. The ego burns up considerable amounts of energy. In some cases, however, the ego retains the little energy that remains and used it for its own purposes. Needless to say, those people who experience a strengthening of the ego in illness take much longer to recover. Some never do, and so the illness becomes chronic and a permanent part of their false sense of self.”

“The mind is a magical workshop containing tools of awesome power. Desire is the dynamo that sets the wheels of destiny in motion. Our thoughts are magnets, attracting to us people and circumstances that correspond to their nature.  The more we focus on a particular thought, the more power it has. “No organization can supply us with a complete set of guidelines on how to live our lives. We have no choice but to derive some for ourselves. Walking one’s own path explicitly acknowledges this fact. With time, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that it doesn’t make sense to come together with a group of like-minded individuals in search of identity, regardless of who the individuals are and how closely their thinking mirrors ours. Who we are is personal and unique. It cannot be arrived at through any kind of inter-personal agreement. Where coming together makes sense instead is to assist us on our search, as well as to help us express the identity that is the fruit of that search.”

“We project our own perceived shortcomings onto others. We say to others what we should be saying to ourselves. When we judge others we are judging ourselves. If you constantly beat yourself up with negative thoughts, you will either beat up on the people around you – verbally, emotionally, physically – or you will beat up on yourself by destroying some areas of your own life. What you do and what you say is no accident.

When you call someone a name for making a mistake, stop and think whether you would call yourself the same name. If you are being honest the answer will invariably be yes. The world is a giant mirror always reflecting back parts of ourselves.”

“With all the spiritual seeking and hustle-bustle of self-improvement and personal growth, we tend to lose sight of the bigger picture – that everything  is unfolding as it must, that we are playing our role perfectly, on track and on time. This transcendental statement doesn’t mean that life will always turn out the way we want or think it should; it only serves as a reminder to relax, to take a slow, deep breath (right now) – to accept and make the best of the life we are given.

So above all be gentle with yourself; you are doing the best you can, for now, within your current capacities and awareness. The moment we begin to trust our life as it unfolds, we resign as General Manager of the Universe. And in this not knowing comes an acceptance of ourselves as we are, even as we naturally evolve, through time and circumstance, into who we may be.”

All of life supports you. There is not a rock, a branch, a hillside, a drop or an ocean of water that turns away from you as you approach. All are here for you to work with, to play with, to commune with, to create and recreate with. The world is a joyous playground offering itself for you to do with as you please. “Some of those who talk to Me have a high level of faith that I am hearing their words. Yet even they do not expect to hear MINE. So they look for signs. They say, “God, give me a sign.” Yet when I give them a sign in the most common way that they can think of – by using the very language which they speak – they deny Me. And I tell you this, some of you will yet deny Me. Not only will you deny that this is a sign, you will deny that receiving such a sign is even possible.

Yet I tell you this: nothing is impossible in God’s world. I have not stopped talking directly with you, and I never will. You may not always hear clearly, or interpret with complete accuracy what I have to say, but as long as you try, as long as you keep the dialogue open, you give our friendship a chance. And as long as you give God a chance, you will never be alone, never face any important question by yourself, never be without an instant resource in a time of need, and yes, always have a home in My heart. This IS what it means to have a friendship with God.”

“Sadness is present to support you in letting go of old aspects of self, layers of ego protection you no longer need…we usually resist sharing in deeper and more meaningful ways. Expressing yourself more fully simply isn’t what you know or feel comfortable with, and therefore feels threatening. Sadness, when understood from love, serves as your signal to embrace greater clarity and insight as to what more wants to be expressed.

Your sadness allows you to uncover your buried treasure, lovingly behind your ego. Shorter stints of sadness give insight into relatively easy shifts you can quickly make in your life. The longer it has been buried, the grander the treasure you will find, and the deeper the sadness you will feel.”
