“We all have these haunting doubts and self-limiting beliefs that try to present themselves as facts. These thoughts represent stinking thinking that distorts our reality by masquerading as Truth. This way of thinking can become so ingrained that it talks you out of your value, entices you into false substitutes, and creates the illusion of more.

Mistaken beliefs and assumptions spawn stinking thinking. It takes many forms: rationalizing, making excuses, being defensive, over-generalizing, thinking you are unloved or unworthy, labeling, blaming, minimizing, projecting, being prejudiced, mind reading, being superstitious, obfuscating, all-or-nothing thinking—all ways of fudging or denying the truth, escaping from the deeper reality underneath.

Stinking thinking robs you of MORE. This false thinking keeps you from achieving what you could, and discourages you from trying new things, taking risks, and creating MORE. You may use these thoughts to talk yourself out of pursuing MORE before you even get a fighting chance. Stinking thinking lowers motivation and kills hope. “How could you go about creating a happy, loving, peaceful world? By learning a simple, beautiful, but painful art called the art of looking. This is how you do it: Every time you find yourself irritated or angry with someone, the one to look at is not that person but yourself. The question to ask is not, “What’’s wrong with this person?” but, “What does this irritation tell me about myself?” Do this right now.

Think of some irritating person you know and say this painful but liberating sentence to yourself. “The cause of my irritation is not in this person but in me.” Having said that, begin the task of finding out how you are causing the irritation. First look into the very real possibility that the reason why this person’s defects or so-called defects annoy you is that you have them yourself. But you have repressed them and so are projecting them unconsciously into the other. This is almost always true but hardly anyone recognizes it.”

The only discussion left then is whether life and God are the same things. And I tell you, they are.

Even an agnostic—even an atheist—would agree that there is some force in the Universe that is holding it all together. There is also something that started it all. And if there is something that started it all, there has to have been something existing before the universe as you know it existed.

The universe didn’t just burst into being out of thin air. And even if it did, “thin air” is something. And even if you say that the universe burst into being out of nothing at all, still you must deal with the question of first cause. What caused something to arise out of nothing at all?”
