“The hardest words to own are always related to incidents where we feel someone has wronged us. Our egos resist owning characteristics that would make us give up blaming someone else for the condition of our life. Most of us have spent a long time building cases against the people who have harmed us. Oprah Winfrey once said in a commencement speech, “Turn your wounds into wisdom.”

Instead of holding on to resentments, learn from them. Look to see how you’ve benefited from your wounds. Where have they led you? Who is in your life now that might not have been if you hadn’t had a particular bad experience? And how does holding onto your wounds keep you from fulfilling your dreams? When you use your wounds to grow and learn, you don’t have to continue to be the victim. Look at the person who has harmed you; examine what aspects of this person plug in. And when you can find those things within yourself, you will no longer be attached to or affected by the other person.”

“It takes courage to change routines, even minor ones, but more fully living each moment is what’s at stake. Even if a routine is useful, that doesn’t mean it has to be mind-numbing. Enter each routine today with the intention and freedom to experience it directly, consciously – without falling into habit or letting your mind travel elsewhere while your body moves automatically. For example, do you know what color socks you are wearing at this moment? What color are the buttons on your blouse our shirt? Is there anything unique about the stitching or fabric?

Lots of unexpected – and sometimes unfortunate – things can happen when we get robotic. I have a good friend who told me that he got dressed one morning, made his coffee, got into his car, and headed to work. He had traveled several miles when he noticed his legs were cold. He glanced down and discovered that he had forgotten to put on his pants! Now there was a wake-up call to be present – fortunately, not a disastrous one. If we’re not careful, routines can rob us of the experience of the next minute.”

“Souls are not sent to Hell because there is no Hell. Some preach that you will be condemned to suffer eternal damnation in Hell if you incorrectly worship God. Is eternal damnation really necessary? Wouldn’t a thousand years of damnation suffice? How about we compromise: a million years of relentless torture.

The spiritual dimensions cannot be Hell-like, because Hell needs two conditions, which are absent on the celestial plane: duality and separation. Devilishness can only happen in the dualistic material world. The only possible address for Hell is here on earth. Those in abject poverty, prison, war zones, or abusive relationships may indeed inhabit the slums of Hades. People afflicted with mental illness and inner torment, or victims of crime or disease, may well live in Hell.

Since the spiritual dimension permeates this world, even someone in the most pitiful condition can find release and illumination. Prisoners have found God inside their cells; soldiers have seen miracles on the battlefield; and, politicians have even had “confirmation conversions” during Senate hearings. No matter how bad our circumstances, we always have options because of Heaven’s proximity. Reach out and touch an Angel.”

“When we fight for something more than we need, it surely makes sense to realize that another is missing out somewhere. Can you not see the connection? Can you not join the dots? This doesn’t just apply to your world. This applies to everything in the world, be it food, water, clothing, shelter, oil…What I am demonstrating is that need and want are not the same. And neither are passion and fighting. Fighting is usually grounded in the misplaced and fearful notion that there is not enough to go around. It is buried in the false belief that life and the universe will not deliver to us what we need. So, instead, we constantly fight for everything tooth and nail.

Yet life will always deliver us what we need. It always has. This is demonstrated throughout the natural kingdom. Do birds starve in the winter? Do wild animals go hungry in the spring? No, so long as nature spreads its bounty around, everything is supported. Nature has an inherent, built-in belief that there will always be sufficient to share. Unfortunately, there is one species on this earth that forgets this wonderful dance going on. There’s only one dominant species that imagines it is going short. Humanity. “We are subject to many illusions in our daily life. The greatest one is the one that keeps us trapped in giving our energy to what always has been. This illusion is characterized by the belief that “The past is the reason why I am continuing to believe in these ways.” In some of my earlier writing, I have referred to the wake of a fast moving boat. The wake is the trail that is left behind and nothing more, just a trail that is in back of the boat. You don’t need to be a nuclear physicist to understand that the wake does not drive the boat. Nor does the wake of your life. It is simply the trail that is left behind.

The greatest illusion is the one in which you look into your past (wake) and put your energy on what is there, even if you find it reprehensible, and then you act upon those thoughts and continue to produce more and more of what has always been. To transcend this illusion you must see what it is that makes it an illusion in the first place. The wake cannot drive the boat. The wake of your life does not drive you today. But the present moment energy that you put into the events and actions of your past, explaining or excusing your continuing problems does affect your life today. That is the source of those problems, and nothing more.”
