BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 by Catherine Ponder in OPEN YOUR MIND TO PROSPERITY

“Are you hostile and envious of people around you who succeed? Do you criticize them? Have you made unkind remarks about them? How do you feel, and how do you react, when someone near you has a prayer answered or has some good thing happen? Can you take it?

Sometimes we are tested. Sometimes the good we desire in life seems to come to people around us first. If we can praise and give thanks for another’s blessings, rather than be envious and jealous and critical, then we can be assured that those same blessings (or even greater ones) will come to us. But, if we make unkind remarks about, are hostile toward, or are envious of other people’s blessings, we have failed the test. We stop similar blessings from getting through to us.”

“Each of us, as we journey through life, has the opportunity to find and to give his or her unique gift. Whether this gift is quiet or small in the eyes of the world does not matter at all – not at all; it is through the finding and the giving that we may come to know the joy that lies at the center of both the dark times and the light.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 by John Selby in EXPAND THIS MOMENT

“You know that you shine at work and succeed in general when you’re feeling positive, hopeful, and happy, and are tuned in to the pleasures of the present moment. And you tend to fail when you’re anxious, depressed, lost in worries about the future, or feeling guilty and remorseful about the past. To see this clearly is to educate your ego to recognize that saying, “I choose to enjoy this moment,” is the wise action, not just for spiritual well-being, but also for biological survival.

Of course, when you’re in a dangerous situation, you do need to focus on the danger and deal with it. Face your danger! But don’t stay chronically fixated on fearful imaginations about the future. Instead, exercise your freedom to take charge of your mind, use cognitive tools that help you break free from the worry trip – enjoy your life rather than wasting it in anxious contraction.

We all struggle with worrying, and I’m not saying it’s easy to stop feeling anxious. I’m just suggesting that you begin right now to commit yourself to learning how to regularly shift your focus of attention from worry to its opposite – full, confident participation in each unfolding moment. Krishnamurti put it this way: “If your eyes are blinded with your worries, you cannot see the beauty of the sunset.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, June 20th, 2022 by Fr. Anthony De Mello, in THE WAY TO LOVE

“We think the world would be saved if only we could generate larger quantities of goodwill and tolerance. That’s false. What will save the world is not goodwill and tolerance but clear thinking. Of what use is it to be tolerant of others if you are convinced that you are right and everyone who disagrees with you is wrong? That isn’t tolerance but condescension. That leads not to union of hearts but to division, because you are one up and the others one down. True tolerance only arises from a keen awareness of the abysmal ignorance of everyone as far as truth is concerned, for truth is essentially mystery.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, June 17, 2022 by Marianne Williamson in THE GIFT OF CHANGE

“A few weeks before my father died, he was lying on his favorite bench, already gravely ill, and I was sitting on the floor next to him. He had an intense but faraway look in his eyes, and he said, “I’m not afraid, I know where I’m going.” I simply looked at him and shared the moment, but I’ve often wished since that I had asked for more explanation. He clearly perceived an eternal reality that would carry him through death.

It shouldn’t have to take death to make us so much more aware of what matters and what doesn’t, what’s eternal and what’s not. Why can’t we remember much, much sooner that love is all that matters and love is all that lasts? It’s as though, when death is at the door, we’re given a free dose of sacred understanding. Perhaps if we asked for it earlier, it would come.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, June 16th, 2022 by Richard Rohr in SIMPLICITY

“God calls all of you to take the path of the inner truth – and that means taking responsibility for EVERYTHING that’s in you: for what pleases you and for what you’re ashamed of, for the rich person inside you and for the poor one. Francis of Assisi called this, “loving the leper within us.” If you learn to love the poor one within you, you’ll discover that you have room to have compassion “outside” too, that there’s room in you for others, for those who are different from you, for the least among your brothers and sisters.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, June 15th, 2022 by Shakti Gawain in LIVING IN THE LIGHT

“If you are willing to allow the energy of the universe to move through you by trusting and following your intuition, you will increase your sense of aliveness and your body will reflect this with increasing health, beauty, and vitality. Every time you don’t trust yourself and don’t follow your inner truth, you decrease your aliveness and your body will reflect this with a loss of vitality, numbness, pain, and eventually physical disease.

Dis-ease is a message from our bodies, telling us that somewhere we are not following our true energy or supporting our feelings. The body gives us many such signals, starting with relatively subtle feelings of tiredness and discomfort. If we don’t pay attention to these cues and make the appropriate changes, our bodies will give us stronger signals, including aches, pains, and minor illnesses. If we still don’t change, a serious or fatal illness or accident may eventually occur. The stronger messages can be avoided by paying attention to the subtler ones. But once a strong message has come, it is never too late to be healed, if that is what we truly desire.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 by Daniel Ryan in HEALING FROM HEAVEN

“Stop, look, and listen before you allow your mind to catapult you into the idea that something is “good” or “bad.” Things “just are,” and they are perfect as they are. By experimenting with this concept, you will begin questioning and challenging existing belief systems that are playing on autopilot, and wake you up front and center into the now.

You may be surprised at how those things that you previously categorized as “good” or “bad” and actually “feel” as you see and feel them for the first time. When you de-compartmentalize an idea or belief and allow yourself to realize what “is” – just as it is – you can begin again. You have an opportunity to be fully engaged in the co-creative process of the universe. This ignites the love, joy, passion, and peace that are your birthright.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, June 10th, 2022 by Richard A. Singer, Jr. in YOUR DAILY WALK WITH THE GREAT MINDS

“We are free to choose to travel through our lives seeking pleasure from cars, clothes, electronics, jewelry, and of course, substances and the almighty dollar. However, rarely has a person truly obtained happiness from any of these peripheral things, in fact I will venture to say this has never been accomplished. This search in the external world is an incessant journey with an uncomfortable conclusion; it never allows genuine heartfelt contentment or peace. This chase is filled with suffering and frustration and goes on eternally unless an intrinsic commitment is made to search within for soul-felt happiness and serenity.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, June 9th, 2022 by Joseph Campbell in REFLECTIONS ON THE ART OF LIVING BY DIANE K. OSBON

“As Schopenhauer says, “When you look back on your life, it looks as though it were a plot, but when you are into it, it’s a mess: just one surprise after another. Then, later, you see it was perfect.” So, I have a theory that if you are on your own path things are going to come to you. Since it’s your own path, and no one has ever been on it before, there’s no precedent, so everything that happens is a surprise and is timely.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, June 8th, 2022 by Mitch Albom in TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE

Morrie Schwartz: “Everyone knows they’re going to die, but nobody believes it. If we did, we would do things differently.”

Mitch Albom: “So, we kid ourselves about death.”

Morrie Schwartz: “Yes, but there’s a better approach. To know you’re going to die, and to be prepared for it at any time. That’s better. That way you can actually be more involved in your life while you’re living.”

Mitch Albom: How can you ever be prepared to die?”

Morrie Schwartz: Do what the Buddhists do. Every day, have a little bird on your shoulder that asks, ‘Is today the day? Am I ready? Am I doing all I need to do? Am I being the person I want to be?’ ”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, June 7th, 2022 by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer in YOUR SACRED SELF

“When your drop your ego beliefs, you are on the way to becoming one of those people Jean Houston describes who have managed to grasp their spiritual identity and fulfill their sacred questions. In a taped interview with New Dimensions Radio, Houston says of these people: “They all had little of narcissism, little of self-interest. They actually had very little self-consciousness at all. They simply didn’t waste time worrying about their self-presentation. They were in love with life. They were in state of constant engagement with all fields of life, whereas most people are encapsulated bags of skin, carrying around little egos. In order to get to this place you have to shatter the illusion of your separateness.

Your idea of yourself, which is what your ego is, will make itself known over and over as you attempt to shatter the illusion. And when you know that you are not separate, when that idea of yourself has shattered, you will experience a new kind of peacefulness.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, June 6th, 2022 by Jeff Maziarek in SPIRITUALITY SIMPLIFIED

“One way to develop your open-mindedness is to begin to observe yourself as you are in the process of being exposed to new concepts. To do this, you essentially take the role of a witness to the process, as well as being an active participant within it. While it may sound somewhat difficult to do, its really not. All that’s required is for you to actively pay attention to what you are reading and hearing, and then acknowledge your judgments one-by-one as they crop up.

When you learn to witness yourself in this way, you develop the skill to be able to immediately recognize when you are judging, and then in that moment remind yourself to remain open-minded. As you begin working on developing your witnessing skills, simply do your best to remain patient with yourself when you’re finding it difficult to remain open-minded, and remember that practice makes perfect.”

“If you truly want to change your life, you must first be willing to change your mind. This requires using the mind to look inward and observe its own workings. What is it attracted to, repelled by, confused by, or put to sleep by? Such inquiry is possible because our mind is the single greatest tool of observation, discrimination, and awareness that exists. All of humankind’s greatest scientific discoveries are created by mind, observed by mind, and interpreted by mind. In the process of observing your own mind, you embark on the greatest inside job ever; using the mind to look in upon itself.”
