“Somewhere along life’s journey, most of us were conditioned or felt the need to exhibit a brave front – to play the game of life. We followed what we thought were the rules, even if they were unspoken. We learned to keep quiet instead of speaking our truth – instead of rocking the boat, taking a stand. Consequently, we’ve tip-toed around each other sensitivities, fearful of saying anything that would hurt someone’s feelings or cause discomfort. Yes, we’ve slowly put on a mask so that in our innocent self-doubt and need to say the proper thing (often something we don’t truly feel), we can be acceptable in everyone’s eyes. We didn’t understand that it wasn’t our sole responsibility to make those around us happy or comfortable.”

“Heaven and hell are psychological definitions. The Catholic definition of mortal sin should relieve you of the thought that you have committed one. As a Catholic, you learn that for a sin to be mortal, the kind that condemns you to hell, it has to be a grievous matter, over which there has been sufficient reflection, done with full consent of the will. So, a mortal sin is a deliberate exclusion of the gift of grace, and is what the devil symbolizes. You cannot open to supernatural grace, to the voice of God.

Deliberately breaking the ritual law can be a mortal sin. But here’s the bizarre thing about such a religion of ritual laws: kill your mother in a passion, and that is not a mortal sin. That’s a venial sin, and you will have your two-thousand years in purgatory on that one. But one little mortal sin, and you’re bound for hell. Let’s all go in a big chariot. When the church said that eating meat on Friday was no longer a mortal sin, there was a crisis in the entire Catholic community. In New York City, where there are a lot of Catholics, there was a great crisis, part of which had to do with the fish merchants.”

Joseph Campbell, in Diane K. Osbon’s “Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion”

“Every person is free. You may have created an arena of work, and based your life upon certain accomplishments and forms. The path of joy is learning not to be caught by the details of these forms. It is learning not to be trapped by your own creations, but to be uplifted by them.

If you have created a job, a relationship, or anything else that is not bringing you joy, look inward and ask why you feel you must be in a relationship with anything or anyone that does not bring you joy. Often it is because you do not believe you deserve to have what you want. There is no such thing as “deserving” on our plane. You all have been given active imaginations; they are your doorways out of where you are. Yours can be a doorway into worry, if that is how you use it, or it can be a doorway into joy.”

“Recognize the power of who you are in your thinking. Your emotional thoughts have either brought your financial good to you or kept it from you. You stay attached to poor thinking, or reject rich thinking because that is the only way of thinking that you know. Did you grow up believing that you had to be secretive about money, or that it wasn’t spiritual? Then until you change those notions of reality, you will find it almost impossible to tell yourself the truth about money, or to believe that you could be spiritual and rich.”

“We can’t truly control any single aspect of God or creation, yet we continue to make our own attempts to control God by limiting God to a human’s descriptive terminology. In other words, we have decided amongst ourselves that it is our place, or within our power, to decide who or what God is. Once you have agreed that God is all things, the discussion is over and so are any arguments or judgments about who is right or wrong about the real God. This type of imagery is primitive and was handed down to us from people living in an age of ignorance and superstition. If you assign God an identity, as such, you have created, for God, one singular thing that He is, while simultaneously creating an infinite list of things which He is not.”

“Harboring unforgiveness and resentment in our hearts does not hurt others. It hurts us. It eats away at the soul, filling it with bitterness and blocking the free flow of God’s love, which is the essence of our true nature.

Holding on to grudges and hanging on to anger and hatred are SELF-destructive. Of that, there is no doubt. No matter how educated we are in spiritual principles, unless there is complete forgiveness in our lives, we wither and die spiritually, emotionally, and sometimes even physically because we are working in such opposition to our basic nature, which is to love.”

“If you think you are the “doer,” you will feel justified in making endless plans. Now, I do not suggest that you try to stop making plans. I ask you instead to watch carefully what happens to your plans. See how they inevitably change, reverse themselves, or even dissolve into thin air as you begin to live out your experience. No matter how hard you try to pin your life down, there are inevitable surprises. And you should be grateful for them. Without these surprises, your existence would be one-dimensional, routine, and boring.

Your ego is terrified of the unknown. No matter how terrible the known past is, the ego prefers it to the unknown present. All of its energy goes into trying to make the present into the past. It thinks that this creates safety, but in truth it creates continued terror, a constant aggravation of the wound until the pain is so intense that it must be dealt with. You see, everything, even your ego, conspires toward your awakening!

So living the past over and over again creates the ultimate terror. Outwardly, life seems safe and predictable. Inwardly, the dynamite has been lit.”

“Are you hostile and envious of people around you who succeed? Do you criticize them? Have you made unkind remarks about them? How do you feel, and how do you react, when someone near you has a prayer answered or has some good thing happen? Can you take it?

Sometimes we are tested. Sometimes the good we desire in life seems to come to people around us first. If we can praise and give thanks for another’s blessings, rather than be envious and jealous and critical, then we can be assured that those same blessings (or even greater ones) will come to us. But, if we make unkind remarks about, are hostile toward, or are envious of other people’s blessings, we have failed the test. We stop similar blessings from getting through to us.”

“If you are thinking, feeling, and knowing from your emotional body and your emotional brain, then you are thinking, and feeling from your limitations. You are creating your life through the thinking and feelings that are identified with your ego.

You are already masters, creating every moment in your life. When you are shifting into a conscious awareness of an awakened awareness of your alignment with that greater capacity within you, you say, “Look at the delight of what is available, of the excitement, of the curiosity, of the imagination, of anything that I can create, and maybe something that I haven’t even thought of that I can create, something beyond my capacity to imagine at this moment. I can create that as well.”

It is consciousness. It is consciousness brought into a discrete particle of information that you have chosen to be your reality. Your have chosen to say at this moment, “This is my reality; this is my consciousness; this is my thought.”

You are not only going to shift your beliefs around the addictive patterns of your old thinking, you are awakening and learning to operate in new portions of your brain that have been designed for you to use. Why else are they there? Declare, “I want it!” And the more awakened you are, the greater use of your brain you have, the greater use of your mind you have, the greater use of your intelligence you have, the more prosperous and rich a life you can lead…easily and naturally.”

“The very questioning of the origin of the Bible is often considered sacrilegious by many a devout Christian, but is it unreasonable to want to know who wrote such an important literary work? Of course not. It is not solid reasoning, in my view, to simply accept the entire Bible as the “Word of God,” solely because a religion or religions say that it is. Why not? Because it has a number of inconsistencies and contradictions. For example, the Old Testament contains a fair share of violence with turmoil, and includes memorable passages such as the oft-quoted “an eye for an eye,” while the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament include admonitions such as “love ye one another” and “turn the other cheek.”

Which of these clearly conflicting messages, then, is the actual Word of God? Or, are we to assume that God has different rules for different periods of time?”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, July 24th, 2018 by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer in YOU’LL SEE IT WHEN YOU BELIEVE IT

“Detachment in human relationships does NOT mean an absence of caring. It means caring so much that you suspend your own value judgments about others and relate to them from a position of love rather than attempting to control or judge them. The person who is detached in this sense is one who will avoid all the unnecessary suffering that most people experience in their relationships. You send love, decline a victim role, and exhibit an infinite supply of caring for yourself and your loved ones. And you are detached metaphysically. Your detachment allows you to have the “un” in unconditional love.”

“Life is as easy as you allow it to be, or as difficult as you make it. Notice that we must make (create, or force them to be) things difficult. We must put extra energy into things in order to get resistance and stress in return. To simply relax and allow life to unfold for you is indeed the easiest, most natural thing to do. As this process runs its course, you can choose to get in the driver’s seat and steer your own creation for a change. Just use your imagination; that is all prayer is, anyway – heartfelt imagination. See your life, in your mind’s eye, the way you want it to be and feel this in your heart. Know in your heart that it is so; you deserve it, you want it, you believe it is possible, you know that it is so, and it is.

Imagination becomes reality through belief. You can refuse to believe this if you wish, but therein lies the answer to why you cannot see the answers to all of your prayers. If there is struggle in your life, you created it, or you allowed it into your existence. Somehow, some way, you needed to have that particular experience. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing; it is intended to be a learning experience, and those are good things. Take advantage of the opportunities to be thankful for such things – as ridiculous as this might sound.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, July 20th, 2018 by Fr. Anthony DeMello in WALKING ON WATER

“What causes suffering? Mental activity, constructing our thoughts. Sometimes the mind is in repose, and all is well. But sometimes it begins to act, elaborating what Buddha calls the construction of thoughts. It begins to make judgments, evaluations, different and varied thoughts. The mind moves along in a way that means evaluating things and judging persons and events. Suffering is the result of evaluations, judgments, and mental constructs.

If the mind doesn’t judge, there’s no suffering, nor is there any emotion. Sheer joy is all there is. All of us at particular moments in our lives have already experienced this joy. Call it grace, coincidence, luck, or whatever you want. Suddenly we are filled with peace, the mind is no longer agitated, and we experience joy and pleasure.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, Julyl 19th, 2018 by Carolyn J. Gable in EVERYTHING I KNOW AS A CEO I LEARNED AS A WAITRESS

“Every morning when I wake up, I have a conversation with God. I say, “Today, let me be everything you want me to be. How can I serve you today?” Before going to bed at night, we talk again. I say, “Thanks you for the day and all its blessings. Thank you for this beautiful, wonderful life you have given me.” These are prayers I adopted as a young woman, long before the waitress became a CEO. Success was not about money back then (even when I was counting tips down to the last nickel) and it is not about money today. It is about service.

This thread of spirituality is particularly strong in the workplace. Don’t be surprised. Spirituality touches anyone who calls herself or himself an entrepreneur. Why? Because the entrepreneur values enthusiasm and intuition above intelligence in driving them toward whatever quest they are pursuing. Enthusiasm is derived from the Greed word Enthous, which translates as “God within” or “Possessed by godliness.” Intuition is our ability to perceive the truth, even if the facts don’t support it, or if everyone around you thinks you are just a little bit crazy…Trusting your intuition and letting your enthusiasm run wild is what drives the entrepreneurial spirit.

Spirituality is a belief in oneself and in God. It makes the questionable seem possible, and the fanciful seem real.”

“No effort is required to change any outside circumstance of our life when you change your inside understanding of the truth of who you are. When you think and feel in a state of love and gratitude with conviction and certainty, those in your immediate circle of influence, as well as those around the globe, feel that effect.

You are already masters of the life that you are creating, attracting to you the experiences that you unconsciously believe, and repelling from you any experiences that may rock the boat of those beliefs. When your subconscious mind believes in a certain way, it makes that a reality. This is how and why you are creating the life you have right now.”
