BEST of PONDER on THIS for February 1st, 2016 by Thich Nhat Hanh in PEACE IS EVERY STEP

“Hope is important, because it can make the present moment less difficult to bear. If we believe that tomorrow will be better, we can bear a hardship today. But that is the most that hope can do for us – to make some hardship lighter. When I think deeply about the nature of hope, I see something tragic. Since we cling to our hope in the future, we do not focus our energies and capabilities on the present moment.

We use hope to believe something better will happen in the future, that we will arrive at peace, or the Kingdom of God. Hope becomes a kind of obstacle. If you can refrain from hoping, you can bring yourself entirely into the present moment and discover the joy that is already there.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, January 29th, 2016 by Lynn Grabhorn in EXCUSE ME, YOUR LIFE IS WAITING

“Got a desk piled high with work? On overload with details? Prepave the day to go with ease before you get there. See yourself breezing through the work. Speak your Intent and tell the universe why you want it. Then don’t dare pick up one piece of paper until you flow buckets of positive energy.

Prepaving is simply sending your energy ahead of you, programmed with the frequency of your desire. Sometimes you send it to a specific place, sometimes you spray it around, other times you send it to a person. Granted, you can’t change somebody’s mind, force them to act against their will, or do anything that’s against their nature. But in tense situations, you can prepave to create an atmosphere of trust and openness which will spawn congeniality. The groundwork is done; the rest is up to you – and your Guidance – when you get there.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, January 28th, 2016 by John St. Augustine in LIVING AN UNCOMMON LIFE

“Just because some area of your life is out of balance now does not mean that it cannot lead to success. Taking a fall doesn’t mean you can’t get up and try again. People told Roger Bannister that it was impossible to break the four-minute mile, but he did it anyway. Gandhi was told that there was no way he could bring the British Empire down without violence, but he did it anyway. Rosa Parks decided that enough was enough and sat down to make a stand that changed America. The list goes on and on. Balance is no different now that you know what it is, where it is, and how you can reach it. Nothing is “impossible” anymore unless you deem it so.

An important factor in creating a life in balance is engaging yourself in something you love to do. Far too many of us settle for less than we can be because we are not willing to put the time, energy, and effort into our dreams. It’s a far better existence doing what you love to do rather than spending a lifetime working for a living because that’s all you know. Find people who are doing what you would like to do. Ask them how they got started, what route they took, how they arrived. People who have built their dreams from the ground up are usually more than willing to share what they have learned on the path. They were once where you are and have great respect for the journey.”

“Everybody around you is a mirror that is going to reflect your wounds. Whoever comes and lets you know where your wounds are is doing you a big favor. That person is putting your attention on the place where you have a wound, but perhaps you didn’t know you had one. And if you have free will and your attention controls your beliefs, just by putting your awareness on the wound, you can shift it. You can say, “Oh, thank you for being a mirror and letting me see my wounds.”

PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, January 26th, 2016 by Richard A. Singer in YOUR DAILY WALK WITH THE GREAT MINDS

“Freedom from the past is only accomplished by your own doing. You and you alone have the choice and ability to either torture yourself for being human or forgive yourself for your humanity. This is when you will be able to live in the present moment where life exists. Forgiveness of yourself is necessary if you plan to have peace, serenity, and any form of genuine happiness. Allow yourself to escape the pain of the past and move along your course to tranquility and joyous living. It is quite senseless to continue to permit the past, which cannot be changed, to dictate your present state of living. If you feel the need to experience guilt, remorse, and regret, that’s fine; however, experience it once or twice, learn the lesson intended, and move on. There is no productivity in feeling this pain 147,000 times over a 30-year period.”

“Our deeds, both positive and negative, resonate within us and within the world. Those who commit crimes that remain undiscovered or unsolved—and who seem to escape consequences for their actions, cannot escape the Watcher who sees all. For some, this Watcher is God. But whether or not one believes in divine justice, we are always watching ourselves. And our level of self-worth—how much we believe we deserve—has a powerful impact on our fortunes.

When we behave with kindness and compassion, in a spirit of service, our self-worth rises and we open our hearts to life’s blessings. When we behave poorly or hurtfully, it cannot escape our notice. I have seen, again and again, that such actions ultimately generate some form of self-sabotage, limitation, or suffering.”

“If you are trying to look into the future, to see the outcome of something, often the information will come back not through your mind, but through your body. You may be trying to decide upon a path, and as you think of one choice you notice your breathing has grown shallow, your body is somewhat closed, and that you feel discomfort in your stomach. These are signs from the future you are sensing that are telling you about this path.

If when you think of a certain path, you feel heavy inside, you body is telling you there is a better way to do it. Keep imagining possible futures, varying slightly the things you are thinking about doing, until you have a light feeling, try out some new alternatives. Learn to monitor yourself, for you are an energy-sensing device, and as you monitor yourself, you begin to find the clues and the answers that are there.”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, January 21st, 2016 by Polly Campbell in HOW TO LIVE AN AWESOME LIFE

“Savoring is the act of noticing the positive, amazing, awesome things in your life and then pausing to engage with the good feelings that come out of that, says Loyola University professor of psychology Fred Bryant, author of Savoring: A New Model of Positive Experience. It is the process of becoming aware of both the good things in life and your inner, personal experience of them. You might then express those good feelings through gratitude or other outlets, but savoring requires you first to identify the feeling in the moment. To be with it. Absorb it.

Its power lies in our ability to notice the little goodnesses that are part of our daily experience, instead of taking them for granted, Bryant says. Happiness and other positive experiences then arise from those goodnesses.

“It is in the slowing down that we are better able to notice the things that are there to savor. You want to stop and smell the roses? Well, you can’t just roll your window down as you drive by the garden,” Bryant says. “Getting more, moving faster is not better. It’s giving your attention in a mindful, deliberate, conscious way.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, January 20th, 2016 by Todd Rundgren

“It’s fairly common for people to go through their lives with someone to blame: “My Jewish guilt,” or “‘My parents,” or “Society made me do it.” There are any number of conditions as to why your life didn’t turn out the way you intended it to. My whole philosophy has always been that there is no way to change anything in the world if you don’t have the capacity to change yourself. Therefore, if you’re not satisfied with the way the world is, of if you think the world can be better, you have to figure out a way to know yourself and better yourself. Then you have the assurance that something in the world has improved.”

PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 by Tony Burroughs in THE LAW OF AGREEMENT

“Everything you need is here for you. You need only look around to see that this is true. The trees offer shade from the sun, block the wind in time of storms, make perches for the little birds to sing you their songs, and provide their wood for building your shelters. The animals offer loving companionship and comfort when you are alone. They pull your plows, run your races, fetch your food, and even offer their own bodies so that yours may be sustained. What more could you ask of them?

Your friends and enemies alike fill your life with every kind of experience. They dance with you, work with you, love with you. Without them, you would not want to be here. Even your opponents present you with opportunities for growth and regeneration. For it is a great truth that every time you forgive another, you are rejuvenated. Every time you turn an unloving relationship around, you are refreshed and renewed.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, January 18th, 2016 by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer in REAL MAGIC

“Think of a wrong that was done to you as being like a snake bite. When you are bitten by a snake there are two sources of pain. One is the bite itself, which cannot be unbitten. It happened, it hurt, and you have the mark to prove it. You then go on from there and learn how to avoid snakes in your life. The second source of pain is the venom that is now circulating through you. This is the killer.

No one has ever died from a snake bite – it is the aftershock of the venom circulating in the body that is fatal. So it is with hatred and forgiveness. The event happened. It cannot unhappen in your physical world. But the killer is the hatred and anger that continue to circulate in your system like venom, long after the bite wound has healed and disappeared. You, and only you, have the power to send that killer venom out of you; that it is still present within you is YOUR choice.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, January 15th, 2016 by Alan Cohen in DARE TO BE YOURSELF

“Never underestimate the importance or power of your dreams. Our dreams are actually much closer to reality than the world we usually accept as real. The Chinese Patriarch Chuang-Tsu told his students, “In a dream I saw myself as a giant butterfly. Now I am not so sure if I am Chuang-Tsu dreaming I was a butterfly, or I am a butterfly dreaming I am Chuang-Tsu.”

Be careful not to allow the world to convince you that your dreams are not valid. Often when someone tells us to “get real,” what they are really saying is, “get limited.” Like those around Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Jesus, and so many saints, sages, and seers throughout history, many people are threatened by one who presses against and beyond the edges of the reality into which they have gotten comfortable. But if there is a bigger world to live in, then why not go out and find it?”

PONDER on THIS for Thursday, January 14th, 2016 by Mark Nepo in THE BOOK OF AWAKENING

“We can only consider things so long. After a while, all the information – all the options and opinions – will begin to weigh us down. After our deeper eyes have seen the situation, all the well-meaning voices telling us what we should or should not do will start to feel like strings we can’t cut through.

This was poor Hamlet’s fate. He overthought his life away. He over-considered which way to go until he felt stalled and oppressed by just being in the world. It is natural enough to be cautious and thoughtful, especially when faced with important decision, but often the only way to know what awaits us is to live it.

This brings to mind the revelation that came upon a Hindu sage centuries ago. One day in the middle of their morning prayers, the sage suddenly rose and ushered his students away from the monastery. He rushed them and shooed them back into life like little ducks, proclaiming, “The day is to be experienced, not understood!”

“Every now and then go away,
have a little relaxation,
for when you come back to your work
your judgment will be surer;
since to remain constantly at work
will cause you to lose power of judgment…

Go some distance away,
Because the work appears smaller
and more of it
can be taken in at a glance,
and a lack of harmony or proportion
is more readily seen.”

PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 by Barry Eaton in NO GOOD BYES

“Not only do we have dream contact with our family and friends, but our guides use dreams to send us lessons and information we need to know. I woke one morning with the name of an old friend resounding in my mind. This was someone I had not seen, or even thought about, in many years, but I knew I had to get in touch. I rang him later that day and he was most surprised as he, too, had been thinking about me a couple of days prior. He had some information for me that was very relevant to a project that I was involved in at the time.

I believe these thoughts and suggestions are often given to us by our guides, as well as our loved ones in the afterlife, as a form of telepathy, and it is up to us to follow through. If we are so preoccupied with everyday concerns that we ignore and important message, we may lose out on opportunities or suffer a negative impact. When we ignore messages or guidance, it can often be repeated in a much stronger way, almost forcing us to take notice.”
