“Skepticism is so prevalent in our society that few prayers, it seems, have much chance of being answered. In fact, the Bible makes reference to God not having patience with those who challenge Him. It would appear as if people have always been skeptical of the nature of prayer. But God isn’t some petty deity just waiting for us to violate protocol so He can punish us. That is an aspect of our own personality that we assign to God.

The simple fact is that by challenging God to prove His existence by showing you some arbitrary miracle, you have created a double-bind of sorts, and most likely have neutralized your prayer action. That is, of course, if you made one in the first place. Most people that pose such challenges to their creator never actually ask for anything. A vague challenge to simply, “Show me a miracle…” has already been met. Ask God to show you a miracle and then simply open your eyes; miracles abound everywhere you look.

It’s as if God is laughing at you, returning the challenge by asking you to show Him a place where there are no miracles. The fact is, no human is sophisticated enough to come up with a request which cannot be met by God. Our lack of sophistication may limit our ability to understand the answer when we see it, but rest assured; in God, all things are possible.”

“The purpose of experience is to gain knowledge, insight, and wisdom. Otherwise our experience has little meaning, becoming merely “sound, fury, signifying nothing.” External events, no matter how dramatic, form the mere skeleton of our reality. We give events their value by overcoming limitations. Life is our teacher, but only if we grow through the lessons life offers us. The knowledge, wisdom, and love we gain by living are what expand our souls.”

“To learn new ways of relating to others, examine your behavior toward those people in your life whom you feel a need to dominate or control. Be it a spouse, children, co-workers, employees, clerks, service people, whoever, take some time to relate to them differently by seeing beyond their physical form to the fullness of God in them. This is a great exercise for shifting to a spiritual consciousness, because you will not be coming from the need to control, judge, or dominate. Instead you will will be attempting to empower those whom you may have previously viewed as subservient to you. Once you begin to see past the physical bodies of those around you, you will begin to relate to the very same invisible force that flows through you and them.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, September 13th, 2018 by Anne Wilson Schaef in WHEN SOCIETY BECOMES AN ADDICT

“The best-adjusted person in our society is the person who is not dead and not alive, just numb, a zombie. When you are dead you’re not able to do the work of the society. When you are fully alive, you are constantly saying, “No” to many of the processes of society, the racism, the polluted environment, the nuclear threat, the arms race, drinking unsafe water and eating carcinogenic foods. Thus it is in the interests of our society to promote those things that take the edge off, keep us busy with our fixes, and keep us slightly numbed out and zombie-like. In this way our modern consumer society itself functions as an addict.”

“While we instinctively understand the power of prayer when there is a problem, we tend to underestimate its power when there is not. We don’t usually stop to say a prayer before the meeting, or before the date, or before the relationship gets going. We think, “Why should I say a prayer now? There’s no problem!” But the sly and insidious ego is always on the alert for ways to separate the children of God, just as God is always on the alert for ways to reconnect our hearts. Prayer has a way of rendering the ego powerless, reminding the mind of our eternal innocence. And therein lies our salvation.

Relationships are where the ego seeks to do battle with the will of God. In reality there is no battle, for those whom God had joined together – cannot be put asunder. It is only our thinking that we are separate from others that dooms us to conflict and struggle and pain.”

“You are unique; you are the only one who has walked your path, and experienced your life. There have been others along the way, but you came here alone, and will leave here alone. You are the only one who has walked your path and, as such, are uniquely qualified to live your life. No one else knows what a person who was born to your parents on your birthday, who lived your life and has your knowledge and experience, and is in your current situation, will do next. There is only one of each of these types of creatures; and each one will always do what that exact one of those would always do in that exact situation. How could any of us presume to judge another?”

“The cheapest way to feel good about yourself is by feeling superior to others. From this dark seed grows every manner of judgment. Getting out of judgment is vital, and to plant that seed, you have to stop dividing others into categories of good and bad. Everyone lives in the same light. A simple formula may help here. When you are tempted to judge another person, no matter how obviously they deserve it, remind yourself that everyone is doing the best he/she can from his/her own level of consciousness.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Friday, September 7th, 2018 by John St. Augustine in LIVING AN UNCOMMON LIFE

“It’s been my experience that people who love being alive differ from those who think that somehow life is a burden because of one main ingredient – purpose. People who know why they are here like being here. People who have no idea what the heck is going on feel like they are in prison. You get-out-of-jail free card is to stop running on the treadmill and get quiet. Most of humanity’s problems come from our unwillingness to sit alone in a room for more than five minutes and listen for the “still, small voice.” For me it took walking to Chicago and back to Michigan to “get it.” For you, it might just be sitting in your car in the parking lot – without the radio blasting – and simply being quiet.

And consider that you might already be living your purpose and not even know it. We are always presented with choices in life. If we choose with love and respect for ourselves and those around us, the sun shines a bit brighter. If we choose from a place of lack, fear, or pain, it gets pretty dark. The world seems to be a place in need of a few more floodlights, and if you are not too busy, you might consider shining your inner light just a little brighter. You never know how far it will go or who will need it. On behalf of the rest of humanity, we would really appreciate it.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, September 6th, 2018 by Leo Buscaglia in LOVING EACH OTHER

“Keep in mind that there is nothing wrong with us if forgiveness comes hard. We are simply human, vulnerable and far from perfect. The wrong the people do us is difficult to deal with, especially when we are innocent and can find no explanation for another’s behavior. Whey should we forgive and forget? We forgive, for the price we pay for not forgiving is too great.

To bear grudges, to harbor hate, to seek revenge, are all self-defeating and lead us nowhere. They neither satisfy nor heal. They keep us from moving forward and starting again. They bury positive energies in negative actions which serve only to exhaust and deplete us. They keep us suspicious and hesitant to trust again. They destroy our creativity, and retard our growth.”

“Because we have an innate instinct to want to belong and to be part of the pack, a member of the tribe, the manipulated point of view of the media has a great influence on our psyche in terms of acceptance or rejection. We compare movies, sports events, news on the downturn of the economy, and terrorists on the same bias as the media, and we repeat these ideas as true.

As yourself if these beliefs are true: that life is hard, you have to struggle to make it, it is difficult to get what you want, others prevent you from accomplishing your dreams, the economy and world conditions are keeping you from your financial gain.

They are not. The outside influences of the world are simply thoughts that you agree to believe because you fear they might be true. If you are not secure enough in your own thinking and feeling to decide how you want your life to be lived, then you will live your life according to others’ ideas of the best or worst life for you. Any conditions of poverty, prejudice, or outside circumstances have only the power that you give them.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Tuesday, September 4th, 2018 by Pete Koerner in THE BELIEF FORMULA

“In the case of prayer, there seems to be an underlying belief that if the answer to a prayer doesn’t come immediately after praying, happen exactly like we expect that it should, and look just like we imagined it would, then it must be something other than our answer. This way of thinking is very limiting. God, you see, works in “mysterious” ways – that is to say that the workings of God are beyond the knowing and understanding of the human mind.

Why would we presume to be able to anticipate God’s next move? Why would we want to limit our possibilities for experiencing God to those experiences we currently understand, or feel comfortable with? We can not know God in the sense that we know other humans, nor can we understand how God thinks; and it would be impossible, without this knowing, to predict the manner in which God would choose to orchestrate the delivery of our answer.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Monday, September 3rd, 2018 by John Randolph Price in SUPERBEINGS

“You must never forget that whatever you hold in consciousness as the truth about yourself and God will be mirrored in the world about you. If you think there is good and evil, there will be. If you think that God can withhold your good from you, it will be held back. If you think you can be sick, you will be. If you think you will fail, you will surely do so. If you think of yourself as just a “human being” subject to the winds of fate, you will ride that roller-coaster all of your life, high one day and low the next, healthy and sick, plenty of money during “good”times and desperately in need of cash when times are “bad,” harmony followed by disorder, happiness and despair, peace and turmoil.

“But I’m only human,” you might say. “Everybody gets sick, or has an accident once in a while, or runs low on money, or has a blow-up with a neighbor.”

The idea that you are “only human” is simply not true and neither are you supposed to lead a less-than-perfect life on earth. “But what about my back and the payment on the car that’s past due and the unfair way I’m being treated at the office. Don’t tell me I’m in heaven. It’s more like hell.”

Then, it is a hell that you and you alone have created.”

“When you think about what you want, and you emit that frequency, you cause the energy of what you want to vibrate at that frequency and you bring it to You! As you focus on what you want, you are changing the vibration of the atoms of that thing, and you are causing it to vibrate to You. The reason you are the most powerful transmission tower in the Universe is because you have been given the power to focus your energy through your thoughts and alter the vibrations of what you are focused on, which then magnetically draws it to you.

When you think about and feel those good things that you want, you have immediately tuned yourself to that frequency, which then causes the energy of all those things to vibrate to you, and they appear in your life. The law of attraction says that like attracts like. You are an energy magnet, so you electrically energize everything to you and electrically energize yourself to everything you want. Human beings manage their own magnetizing energy, because no one outside of them can think or feel for them, and it is thoughts and feelings that create our frequencies.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Thursday, August 30th, 2018 by Dr. Joseph Murphy in THE POWER OF YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

“The easiest and most obvious way to formulate an idea is to visualize it, to see it in your mind’s eye as vividly as if it were alive. You can see with the naked eye only what already exists in the external world; in a similar way, that which you can visualize in your mind’s eye already exists in the invisible realms of your mind.

Any picture which you have in your mind is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. What you form in your imagination is as real as any part of your body. The idea and the thought are real and will one day appear in your objective world if you are faithful to your mental image.”

BEST of PONDER on THIS for Wednesday, August 29th, 2018 by Eckhart Tolle in A NEW EARTH

“Here is a spiritual practice that will bring empowerment and creative expansion into your life. Make list of a number of everyday routine activities that you perform frequently. Include activities that you may consider uninteresting, boring, tedious, irritating, or stressful. But don’t include anything that you hate or detest doing. That’s a case for either acceptance or for stopping what you do. The list may include traveling to and from work, buying groceries, doing your laundry, or anything that you find tedious or stressful in your daily work.

Then, whenever you are engaged in those activities, let them be a vehicle for alertness. Be absolutely present in what you do and sense the alert, alive stillness within you in the background of the activity. You will soon find that what you do in such a state of heightened awareness, instead of being stressful, tedious, or irritating, is actually becoming enjoyable. To be more precise, what you are enjoying is not really the outward action but the inner dimension of consciousness that flows into the action. This is finding the joy of Being in what you are doing. If you feel your life lacks significance or is too stressful or tedious, it is because you haven’t brought that dimension into your life yet. Being conscious in what you do has not yet become your main aim.”
